Re-strung...too much poundage

So my brother took his Bear bow into Sportsmans Warehouse in Midvale the other day and he had to leave it just to get it re-strung. (I guess they didn't have enough people in there or something...whatever.) Anyway, he calls them back after a day or two and they say that the string length was rubbed off the limb sticker so they put on a few close sizes. The guy told him that it was SO HARD TO DRAW AFTER replacing the string. Mind you this is a 50-60 lb. bow and he got 80 lbs. pull out of it. He said that he couldn't figure it out and didn't know what the problem was. I think it's ridiculuous. Sounds like he may have messed things up good. Anyone know what the problem is here and how we can get it fixed?

Sounds to me like you have way too much preload on your limbs. Call Bear Archery and give them model #, draw weight , draw length and they may be able to give you correct string & cable lengths. If your bow is really old you may have to get a custom set of strings and cables for it if you can't find correct lengths prepackaged. Good luck!

this could be very dangerous... those 60 pound limbs could literally blow up with all that preload tension... they messed things up... I would take it back and make them fix it... if not bring it in to Utah Archery Center and it will get taken care of

The string they put on it is a couple inches too long! I did it on purpose once with a golden eagle formula 3D. went from 80# to 102. Check the axles real good and don't shoot it again until you get the right length string on it.

DON'T use the sportsmans! Man, they jacked up 3 bows of mine and my families! Find a small reliable archery shop to do the work. Definately get it fixed before drawing that sucker again!

I agree with archerman.
They just higher anyone of the street and train them to do bow maintanance, most of them don't hunt with a bow.
I got sick of dealing with archery shops so I went out and bought a bow press and now I do my own work so I know the bow inside and out.
