Range finder or Spotter

I need to choose between a range finder and a spotting scope for this years hunt. I have a nikon spotting scope that is about 10years old. I was looking for a new scope at cabelas and noticed the range finders. Now I have created a need for both, but i do not have the funds for both. If you had around $500 wich one would you go with. I liked the Nikon 550 range finder ($200), but that only leave 300 for a spotter... Any ideas or suggestions would be helpfull. Thanks

Cabelas is the Man's version of a woman's shoe store.

I would go with the range finder. Then, save for a higer end
spotter. At least you still have a spotter that will work???

Take the $500 and buy a Leica.

Have had a Nikon 440 range finder for years. Has never let me down, will consistently get me a range out to 500 yds on deer or elk. Bought a Nikon 550, piece of junk. The best that I can do on elk is 200 yards consistenly, if they are over that forget it, it will not give me a reading.

The pocket sized Leica 1200 is waterproof and has great optics - It's always cheaper to buy the best once. NJS
