Hey I find lots and lots of deer antlers, but i don't get elk that shed on my property so i have permission to go a few places this upcoming week that should be packed with Elk bone, but I don't know how well I'll do cus I know lookin for elk sheds isn't the same as deer, so I was wondering if a few of you such as littlefoot or hoofsandhorns, or any others that tend to find lots of elk bone, could help me out by givin me some tips on the areas I should genarally look, such as what facing slopes, types of feed, or valleys or any kind of info like that.. Thank you for your time to read through this message, cus I know it's not an exciting post, but any kind of help would be well appriciated.. Thank you all,

I know I'm not Littlefoot, but hope I can help. I think it depends on if that property is private or not. In other words, has it been pounded by tons of people. If it has, I would look in the timbered edges, and in the bottom of canyons. Some might disagree, but that is where I have had some luck. If it is private, then those areas I mentioned before plus all around about 3/4 quarters the way up the mountain and in saddles of all sizes. Take it for what its worth.

'crazy4'...it ain't no secret, and i'm sure there are others on here that do way better than me, but i will give you my humble opinion on hunting elk sheds....you have to go where the elk are...simple as that...they spend half their time up feeding, and half their time restin'...find those two areas, and you will find bone...if i were to tell you how much time i spend following 'my' elk around, you would probably call me a liar, and i would not be offended...because if someone else told me the same thing, i would doubt them also...experience pays 'big dividends'...ya gotta 'do the time'...i've done mine, continue to do so, and am happy at the end of the day....bone or not...in your case, you are 'going in blind'...that's o.k., ya gotta start somewhere...ask around, somebody knows where these elk 'hang out', where they eat, where they bed...where do they winter? they won't be far from there, yet...and, you are wrong....this IS an exciting post...anytime i read about someone going into a new area looking for sheds, i have visions of 'huge finds', and lots of'em...i wish you the best of luck, and let us know how it turns out for you....sorry, sometimes me rambles....

Thank you both for Sharing your opinions, and your time with me.. With the help of both of you I doubt I could fail on findin some bone ;).. I'll be out lookin Monday, and tuesday for some elk bone so i'll try to post pics of the elk I find.. Littlefoot I would believe the time you spend with the elk cus I see the outcome of it, and I too am that way only with deer :D.. Though I still doubt the fact I spend as much time as you do with your elk.. Well thanks again to both of you, for sharing you wisdom, and knowledge with this youngbuck :D.. thank you,
Garrett

Boy, would I love to hunt elk shedsall the time. The size of the enormous bone makes it so much easier to find than these dimunitive blacktail sheds. Two years ago while hunting unit 10 in AZ for elk, I paid more attention to the ground than scanning the horizon. We picked up so many it was incredible. Nothing better than shed hunting season!!
