questions about broadheads

Should your broadhead line up with your fletchings? The guy who did my arrows put the inserts in so that every arrow has the broadhead lining up differently. He says it doesn't matter but I'm questioning it. Another guy suggested shooting mechanical broadheads because of this but I've heard a lot of stories about mechanicals failing. Anyone have any experience with mechanical broadheads - especially for elk? Thanks.

Reader's digest version:

Line up fletching with broadhead blades -- not necessary, makes no difference.

Mechanicals on elk -- no.

Bigpig is right it doesn't matter. It won't affect you at all. You just need to make sure your bow is properly tuned and let-em fly.

Nope, don't worry about lining them up. How would you line up a 4 blade head with a 3 fletched arrow?
I also would not shoot a mech. at an elk.

I agree with above posts.
Don't worry about lining them up, there is no way possible to get the blades to cut the same air as the fletching. Worry about having sharp broadheads.

No mechs for elk.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-24-07 AT 07:42PM (MST)[p]I have killed 2 elk in the past 2 years and my brother has killed one. All with mechanical heads. If you have the right KE with your bow I don't think there is a problem with mechanical. THis is a big debate on other sites and It is usuall split pretty even those that say you can and those that say you can't use them on elk.
