Why in the world do units like 61 and 62 open up on October 1? It seems to me a big snowstorm rolls in there every few years right before opening day and the high country becomes inaccessible and the elk clear out. It is bad enough to run into grizzlies seemingly everywhere but to draw that hunt and have it shut down before it even gets going is tough. How about a Sept 15 opener?? Thoughts?

When they had that snow in September they slammed some nice archery bulls then that snow right at gun opener they once again put down a lot of bulls. Everyone I know that hunts the unit they said it was awesome and this are people that are fairly lazy bad hunters. hunters all tend to hit the same drainage up the Greybull but if ya branch off from them its a good hunt.
Also moving rifle to mid sept. messes up the archery hunt. You would have to move archery back to mid august which would just suck

I would imagine the hunters on the opener week were more sucessful down lower country then us up higher up the greybull. Late oct only elk was stragglers. 300 bulls or maybe a little bigger. Only seen 1 shooterbull late oct.
That season should open around the sametime as the thorofare country.
Everybody struggled up there last yr due to most elk moved out of the wilderness from weather

September should be for archery hunting. Utah hunts mid-September with a rifle and it has had a negative effect. October has a few challenges but I have never had a problem finding bulls. And I'm old.

As far as bears, seen multiple bears everyday. Had 2 close encounters. Even had one going through the hay feeders at the TH one night. Couldnt hardly get him to run off.
You will see several bears and bear sighn everywhere you go. Thats just how it is up there.
