LAST EDITED ON Nov-24-07 AT 05:15AM (MST)[p]You are an official measurer for P&Y and my question for you Is, Is It legal to enter an animal In Pope & Young that was taking by radios from guys below radiong them Into the animal? And does that fall under the Fair Chase act?

Absolutely not. This topic was covered in our training class in depth. As measurers, we are to ask spcifically about any possibilities concerning the use of radios.
Hope this helps.

Sorry for the delayed response.....was out of town scouting for an upcoming bowhunt.

nvrmiss is spot on...besides a violation of Fair Chase as defined by B&C/P&Y it may also be illegal depending on which state you are hunting in.

So I take it you would be offended if someone took an animal with the use of radios and spotters?

My problem here is with all of the new age devices people use why is a radio not considered fair chase? Binoculars, GPS, Trucks, ATV's, High powered rifles that shoot 700 yards, rangefinders, etc., etc. This is not to mention trophy animals taken on private land. Is it fair chase, I mean really fair in the terms of fair for everyone(even without money) to enter those into the book? Not everyone can hunt them so it isnt really fair is it?

Work with me here and dont think I am trying to be a troll. But some peoples idea of fair chase is just whacked.

If all else fails. Work on the joints -n- stuff

Would it offend ME...absolutely not.....as long as it's legal. However, as an official measurer, it is my obligation to let the Club know when an entry may be in violation of THEIR rules for a species to be entered into THEIR records program.

I tell hunters all the time, IF you want something entered into the "book", you have to meet the requirements established by the respective Clubs. If you choose not to follow THEIR guidelines, no harm no foul. Doesn't make the trophy any less in my opinion. It simply can't be entered.

As far as your other examples, I have a hard time telling other folks how to hunt or what is "right" simply because I have a different opinion. JMO

Huntergeorge the difference is you cant use a GPS, binos, rifle... to actually call someone and tell them where a buck is or what it's doing. It's different than having a spotter give you hand signals or something like that. I know using radios or cell phones is illegal in my state for "locating" game. I think the term locating can be stretched into any communication (via phone or radio) that aids in the taking of game by the state. A few years back a TV guy everyone's heard of got into trouble by calling his elderly dad on a radio to have him come hunt a buck he saw or something to that effect. It sounded like an innocent mistake on his part but the F&G saw it as locating game with a radio. Your right about all the other high-tech stuff getting into hunting but I think this type of law is a good thing. BTW, don't get me started on the 250 yard muzzleloaders, I mean primitive weapons!
