Public Land transfer article & audio....starring Buzz H

I thought this whole idea would blow over, as it has in the past. However, it seems like the land transfer is gaining momentum, as evidenced by some recent D.C. legislation.

Local legislators in Wyo think that the State constitutional amendment on the land transfer being pushed by Senators Hicks & Bebout does not have enough votes to pass. Although I can't think it's his intention, Hicks seems to be selling out the sportsmen, who have made it very clear in Wyoming that we don't want this.

BuzzH is in the forefront of this issue in Wyoming, as he is with many issues we as sportsman are involved and concerned about.

I totally see value in these forums, but if half the people who choose to take the time to write on these forums, gave back a little to get involved, sportsman would truly be a force to be reckoned with at the legislative level. Guess that's a dream though...

And meanwhile, what ever happened to BuzzH? Maybe another chance is warranted Founder.

Hicks is a huge pile of ... Sorry but I have never liked the guy at all and his attitudes and opinions on such matters.

As far as this issue goes, I am having a hard time wrapping my head around the issue? I know they have changed how the value the land, but does this mean the land is now deemed less valuable and make it easier for state purchase?

I see a lot gas on this issue, but no one has laid out a the Reader Digest version as too why the recent vote made it easier to transfer?

Agreed. Regardless of anyones thoughts on him, he is a great advocate for the public land hunter.

Very few people putting in the effort Buzz does on this issue. The rest of us must do more.

I am headed to a State legislature roundtable meeting tonight to speak face-to-face with Sen. Baldwin about the Constitutional Amendment bill.

I was told that BuzzH was booted from these forums. I always appreciated his efforts on many sportsman's issues and miss his input on those issues. What bothered me was his alter ego that was obnoxious, rude, combative and sanctimonious. His attacks a few years back on nfh over the score of his late season Cody elk were disgusting. That part of the BuzzH persona will never be missed. He posts on the OYOA website and seems to have toned it down.

Have to say I agree with you 100% mh. In case you didn't read the way he ##### on me again over there on HT (OYOA), take a look at the Elk Forum and go to the thread "Learning Wyoming Application Process" that Randy locked because of the BS to me by BuzzH and JoseCuervo. If I was making the decision you couldn't pay me enough to allow him back on here and that nfh debacle was just one of the many that happened to cause him to get the boot. What he did on that HT thread was just pure mean, nasty, and vindictive because he hates my guts no matter what I post. Just MHO on where his status should remain!

Yep, and that's the biggy on this whole transfer debacle. Lack of significant funds on the part of a state to take over all the Federal land in some of the western states means only one thing. If a state is struggling with it's budget, there is a always a simple way out to get money and that's the sale of land to private interests. That closes the gates to that land to the general public forever.

Part of Hicks' argument (more like wishful thinking) is that the mineral rights will come with the land. The feds take in around 1 billion in mineral rights from Wyoming lands. And that mineral revenue would then pay for the state to manage the public land.

1) I be absolutely shocked if the feds would consider giving up that kind of revenue stream give a 20 trillion dollar national debt.
2) I don't know if Hicks realizes that a lot of Wyoming is split estate in that the land is private and the minerals (oil, gas, coal, uranium, etc.) are federally owned. I don't know what % of the billion dollar figure comes from split estate $.

If for some reason anyone on here is still on the fence over this issue, read the recently released interim report from the Education Subcommittee on the education funding shortfall. One of their own recommendations is to raise the school trust account, i.e.SELL MORE TRUST LAND.

I appreciate BuzzH's effort in regard to public transfer proposals. It has actually been a breath of fresh air since his disappearance from this website. If anyone has noticed, there have hardly been any heated battles since he left. Anyone that disagreed with his stance on issues he literally tried to tear apart. As mentioned several times above, he personally attached me (and others) and our views on this and other websites.

IMO, Hicks has never been a friend to sportsmen, even though he professes to be. His actions show otherwise usually. On occasion, he does support some reasonable causes in regards to legislation involving sportsmen. Seems to me that most of his actions are self-serving and not in the best interests of public land sportsmen. He's someone we need to keep a close eye on.

As far as Buzzy, yeah- he's kind of a butt-head. But that's okay. A lot of you guys are . Wouldn't bother me any if he was still on here. Whatever. He's entitled to his opinion just like the rest of us. Whether you like it or not. Thicken up your skin. Buzz never was afraid of hurting someone's feelings, lol. Yeah, he jumped on me a couple times, too. Whatever. Get over it.
