Listen up, folks, the Extended Archery hunt is again bringing out the yahoos. If I wasn't a bowhunter myself and didn't get to associate with those of you here, I might wrongly form a quite negative opinion of stickflingers.
I'm begging you-if you see violations, REPORT IT. Because as it stands right now, there are sections of the Front that will be excluded by next year, and it's because of some seriously idiotic antics by some of the hunters. I've said it before, and I'll say it again-regardless of what some may think, hunting is a privilege, not a right, and that privilege does not allow you to walk through yards to access the Front (regardless of whether or not the house is currently vacant...and boy, do I hope YOU are reading this). Keep that up, and I guarantee you that our lovely mayor will definitely do what he is already being pressed to do-enforce the 'no hunting in city limits' law. That's right, hunting is actually verboten in SLC, and the city limits go farther than you realize.
It's pretty blatant that you know you are wrong when you wait 2 hours after dark to come out, hoping the cops sitting next to your vehicle gave up. Can you imagine what the prospective house buyers thought when 2 dudes in camouflage carrying what we all agree is a weapon traipsed through the yard? And then told the realtor to f-off and kept going? Law pointer for ya-the realtor is representing the home owner and has standing. I shouldn't have to even say that, and I know you all have much more common sense than these guys.
If we don't police ourselves, we are going to lose this opportunity. Please don't tolerate this behavior, and please don't do it yourself. I can't tell you how many notes I've left on trucks trying to get the message through.
How would you feel if someone marched through your yard? I know it would piss me off, and you can't tell me it wouldn't you as well.
I'm sure this will generate some discussion, discussion is good, it's what makes people think about it.
