I see in this morning's paper that our neighboring state of Utah has two bills of some interest being introduced in their legislature. The first would increase the statewide bounty on coyotes to $50 each. The goal is to eradicate 20,000 coyotes from the state. The one million dollar price tag for this effort is to be covered partially by increasing their license fees five dollars. The second bill is calling for a hunting season on wolves to be handled much like their hunting of lions and bears. The sponsor stated that even though technically they do not have any wolves in Utah he keeps hearing of reports of them in various places and he wants the state to be "ahead of the curve". Thought these bills may be of interest to others. Would you travel to Utah to shoot coyotes for $50?

I HAVE TO GIVE CREDIT TO UTAH AT LEAST THEY ARE DOING SOMETHING TO IMPROVE THERE SITUATION. ONLY MISTAKE IS NOT MAKING THE LION AND WOLF THE SAME AS A COYOTE. 50 OR 100$ EA. NO MORE TROPHY ANIMAL STATUS. YOU HAVE TO WONDER IF WYOMING AND IDAHO F&G HAVE TROUBLE SLEEPING AT NIGHT. THE IDAHO F&G ARE PARALYZED .

MULEY204---Would you please expand on that Wyoming & Idaho comment? The states are pretty well at the mercy of the ESA and what they can do when the Feds still hold the Ace card and are basically calling the shots, even though Idaho and Montana are now hunting wolves under their approved plans. You seem to make it sound like a state can do anything and everyting it wants to and when you're dealing with the ESA that's far from true!
