Potential New World Record from the AZ Strip

Great Buck! John is a fantastic guy, I was privileged to get to hunt with him in New Mexico quite a few years back.

Years ago, i took the then New World Record for Typical Mule Deer,.. recorded in the Walmart boots and cotton socks category.

Just to clarify on Pope and Young world record issue for velvet mule deer:
Pope and Young does not have a category for Velvet Mule Deer that will be officially entered into the all-time, or permanent record book. They will only enter permanent scores on mule deer that are hard-horned.
Bo Gardner killed a buck last year here in Utah that would have absolutely shattered the world record for typical mule deer had he chosen to have the velvet stripped. But, like many of us, he didn't want to strip the velvet.....so, yes, Pope and Young will officially score his deer, but they will not enter it into their permanent record book.
So the hunter who killed this AZ buck would have to strip the velvet and then have the buck scored as a hard-horned buck in order to challenge the current Pope and Young world record typical mule deer.

There seems to be a bit of confusion as to P&Y's stance on velvet entries. Here are the facts, as some of the posts above are not entirely accurate.
P&Y accepts velvet entries for all antlered species (elk, deer, caribou, moose). They are not ranked in the book and are PERMANENTLY recorded in the records program (DVD accompanied with all record books). They are treated much like typical whitetail deer (under 147"), as they are printed in one record book only due to the size of the book. However, at the next convention in Phoenix, the P&Y Club will unveil a new Velvet record book only that will list any/all velvet entries ever recorded. This is something new, that I was asked to assist on, as many Western hunters have been wanting to see something like this for quite some time.
As for the size of the "book".....I truly believe there will be no actual book in the future, as it will be much too large to produce and/or manage. I see the "book" being a DVD in today's technological community. Discussions have already occurred in this area.
Velvet entries are NOT eligible for world record contention. They are simply much more difficult to CONSISTENTLY measure ACCURATELY in terms of baselines, webbing, etc., and therefore are not eligible. To be eligible, they would have to be stripped, just like B&C requires.
Any potential world record animal must go to panel to be accepted into the records program. I've been on a few panels, and will be on the next one in Phoenix, and my experience has taught me this; nothing is a world record until it is verified at panel. I know of a few "for sure WR animals" that ended up not falling well short of a world record at panel.
The buck listed above is an awesome animal that I hope is entered, accepted, and invited to panel. I'd love to see it. Congratulations to the hunter and the guide. Well done!
