Peep Rotation

Got a question for you guys and gals out there. Peep rotation. I own a apple bow press and I am in the process of installing tubeless peep on my bows. I do all my own stuff since I am nowhere near a bow shop and hey it's relaxing........most of the time. I am having a hard time not getting the peep to line up every time. Here is my process. I lower the bow poundage and throw it on the press, install the peep and twist the string a half turn (tighter) then I let up on the bow press, put the bow back at the proper poundage and then either the peep is twisted to much or not enough. So then I repeat the same process adding another half a twist keeping track of all the twist I have made. ?? When this peep is properly installed should it rotate at all when I am drawing the bow back or should it stay in the same place all the time. I have always gone with tube peeps because I didn't have a bow press to work on my bows. I undertand that it may take awhile for this to work out ( a half a turn at a time) . Is there any thing I am doing wrong? Thanks Caleb

I have always just trained my peeps. I do this by rotating them to where I want and then knock an arrow and leave the bow like this for a day or two.It has always worked for me.

One thing I have done is to use my loop to help get it lined up. It is normal to have it turn as you draw. With a loop, when you nock an arrow and pull back, it should be lined up.

Before I used a loop, I used to get it to line up by taking most of the twist out of the string. Like it better now, just using the loop.

A d-loop helps imeasurably for this. Set it up such that the loop is angled out the side where it is easiest to hook up with your release, then as you start to draw the peep will come into line.

There are a couple other issues that you might consider with a tubeless peep. Tempurature plays a huge role in peep rotation. 25 deg F vs. 95 deg F will rotate your peep 3/4's of a turn even with the very best string materials and string build. Also, contrary to popular belief, even the very best strings continue to stretch over time. It will take at least 200 shots to stop noticing the peep rotation. After that it will require 1/2 twist or so every 1000 to 1500 arrows.

Another hint is a dab of crazy glue in the pocket on the loop knots will work wonders for keeping it set vs. the string after you've done that first 500 shot break in :)

Cheers,
Pete
