KELSO, Wash. ? Kelso, Wash., police say a man used his compound bow to interrupt an apparent break-in at a nearby vacant home, wounding a fleeing man in the buttocks.

Police say the Kelso man grabbed his hunting bow late Sunday night and chased a suspected prowler for more than three blocks. When the fleeing man refused to stop, the bowhunter shot him with a broadhead arrow.

A 32-year-old Longview man later sought treatment at St. John Medical Center for an arrow wound to the left buttock. Doctors removed the arrow tip and the man was listed in satisfactory condition Monday.

Kelso Police Capt. Vern Thompson says there were no immediate arrests and the investigation continues. He says charges against both men are possible.

C'mon now, everybody knows you're not supposed to take a running shot with archery equipment...

No kidding, where are his hunting ethics? Gosh! :)

The chances that the "archer" will be arrested and charged seem very high. Most understand that you can't just shoot someone who is fleeing, be it with a rifle, handgun, or bow. He will have to claim self defense, which seems unlikely with the story provided. It is always good to stop a thief, but I'm not sure he excercised good judgement. Another foot or so higher and he could easily have killed the guy, and a spine shot has all sorts of grim outcomes. Good luck to him.
