ORV Road Closure in the Wyoming Range

LAST EDITED ON Jun-25-18 AT 05:58PM (MST)[p]Has anyone looked at the 2018 Wyoming Range ORV map? I can't believe they have shut down McDougall Gap to ORV's. That's from the Greys River Road up over the top and down the other side of the mountain. They also closed Smith Fork Rd from the highway just above Star Valley to the head of the Greys River. They have also closed a bunch of roads in the Big Piney area, but the worst is the closed section in the middle of the Greys next to the Air Strip. So now you can't legally drive an ORV up the Greys River Road from the bottom to the top.

Does anyone else have an issue with this or is it just me?

....how does closing roads make something now possible on an ORV??

"They also closed smith fork rd from the highway just above star valley to the head of greys river"......just SOUTH of star valley??

Make some calls and find out why, perhaps you'll learn there was a good reason.

Funny point-"roadless hunter" complaining about road closures.

Your absolutely correct. I own a licensed SxS, but 4 wheeler enthusiasts are getting screwed. You can still drive a pickup or licensed SxS on any of them. Will USFS & BLM enforce it though? The main FS road from Labarge creek to North Cottonwood, hell, even the Dry Fork road south to Cokeville and all the other roads on the Smiths Fork side on BLM. What doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense is they close those sections but still allow 50" or less to be driven all the way up Labarge Creek then down the greys to Bull Creek and only closing the section of road next to the private airstrip for a 1/2 mile...that seems to be a little bit of political bullshit. Heck even all the Deadline Ridge and roads west of Labarge and all the other piney front roads are off limits to 4 wheelers but open to licensed vehicles.

If this is USFS, there had to be a travel management plan. If that's all done, most likely it's too late to change anything.

My biggest complaint here is that these travel management plans are not advertised enough so all effected parties get a say in things. There must be a better way.

Dedicated Road Hunter is my brother. He only gets off the ATV to shoot. If he has to hike it's to far away.

Roadlesshunter still needs to access his moose area.

Up around is a group called the ATV club. People that go out and ride trails. They are always in a battle with the forest service on roads getting shut down. They usually go to a meeting in Cody and put out concerns and they forest service usually has no answer. its like talking to the wall.

Sorry for the smart azz response, good comback though !

Have you looked at the MVUM for the forest there?
Wonder if the roads were damaged last winter?

Good luck on the moose hunt, 24?
