I might also add, I think lots of folks had a horrible season simply because the usual shed hunting grounds were so easily accessible this year. The roads were not so muddy, there wasn't much snow, etc. All this, I think, meant more people were out hounding the usually good places too early and kept or scared the bulls up in the higher ground. Usually, elk won't be too far from the freshest, greenest, most nutrient rich grasses of the spring which tend to be in the lowland areas. But they don't like being bothered by people either.
