Anybody been finding many Oregon elk sheds? It seems to me that this year im not finding as many as i have in the past. Maybe the dry winter that we had?

I will have pics up soon enough. It has been a real tough year so far. The lack of winter has almost killed my season!

Figured you had been havin a rough season havent seen much of you up in the hills.

Here is the picture of "traks" collection he asked me to post for him. Nice find there Jon.

Oregonbone, dont even waist your time in Basie!

these are from saturday and we left a few others that we had to leave do to time constraints but I am planning on returning soon. What a horrible year :(

Only 5 fresh Elk sheds for me this year so far and all are brush bulls...I don't think the big guys moved down this year.

thats what I think.

I had a group spotted when only 2 bulls still had head gear and they were in big country not easily accessible. I am gonna spend some serious time later in the year looking for their antlers.

20 plus 5 & 6 pointers (browns) for me this year.....gobs more of the whiteys. Don't know if yur counting reservations (WS) though. The seasons been good.

I might also add, I think lots of folks had a horrible season simply because the usual shed hunting grounds were so easily accessible this year. The roads were not so muddy, there wasn't much snow, etc. All this, I think, meant more people were out hounding the usually good places too early and kept or scared the bulls up in the higher ground. Usually, elk won't be too far from the freshest, greenest, most nutrient rich grasses of the spring which tend to be in the lowland areas. But they don't like being bothered by people either.

I sent them to kilowat on Monday night. But if he didnt get them ill try to send them to him again.

I've picked up only 1 nice 6 point that was fresh. Its the six point in the picture. But other than that all i have are little 6's, 5's, and smaller bulls. I have a nice old 6 point that i need to find time to get but baseball is not making it easy for me to get up there.

I have a few good antlers spotted but I blew my tranny in my truck so I havent had much time. If you ever go to car ridge take a chainsaw the road is logged in bad. I have a older ones spotted all over the place but I just dont know where to start, because I cant tell of the quality of antlers.

I just dont really know where to start this year!

Oregonbone,

I am headed up on saturday so I might see ya there. I would like to head up salt creek but we will see. I think we are gonna park in the bottom and ride to the top. I know you will probably beat me there so if you could maybe let me know which direction you are headedd so I wont follow you up the same area that would be great. If not I will probably pick some ridge to start working.

oh, we picked up 4 more antlers in rail creek last night.

good luck and talk to ya later!

That is a nice haul Oregonbone,

I am still trying to figure out where that is...little johnson maybe? Looks like a good days work!

Traks howd you do this weekend? I thought i might see ya there but i never did. Spent the better part of the weekend up there since my games got rained out. Picked up 14 horns, half were fresh. Ill send i a pic to Kilowat for him to post.

man you are killin me!!!!!

I dont have my truck and I am really busy with exams, I am gonna try and find some bone in the headquarters pasture ASAP.
The grass is really startin to shoot up :(

My season is pretty much toast because I am ordering a custom tranny for my truck so you wont see me up there for much of the season. OH well, I guess my streak of biggest set for the last couple years in a gonna come to an end soon J/K.

good luck and talk with ya later!

those are some really nice elk sheds. Wish I could go wheelin' around on a quad to find mine :( How about we switch areas for a weekend??? I'd be up for that! The ground looks a little easier to walk too. I'm just giving you guys crap.... you are very fortunate to have such open country to shed hunt and nail good sheds!

keep up the good work!

thanks kilowatt,

I am the one sitting looking across the canyon and the guy holding the big 6 point is EObowhntr. We walked about 6 miles that day and you can see from the picture what type of country it is. At the very beggining I saw 14 bulls with really good growth and by the end of the day I had seen 20 bulls. I was actually kinda disapointed becasue we covered alot of ground and only found 4 antlers: 3 fresh and the other shed was a year old. We are planning atleast one more big hike into some serious coutnry so we will see how that goes.

sorry about pics, I had my camera in my pack when I should have been taking some awesome pictures :(

Nice finds. That big 6 point looks identical to the 6 point set i found last year. Fresh i take it right? Looks like you found that 6 point in salt creek?

Traks whatd you find this afternoon? I got frustrated with the weather today so i made it a quick outing. NOt much for me a couple 5 points.

I didnt do any good, spotted a few old ones but nothing to write home about. I think my season is comming to an end, with the grass shooting up and lack of winter is just isnt worth it. I think I may have one more trip planned for rattlesnake, but we will see. Lets see pics of those 5 points if they are fresh.

OH, we tryed to get out of the rain in the upper country so I built a fire. It took off really good and almost took an entire tree with it......thankfully it was raining or otherwise :(
