STARTING AN ARCHERY SHOP HERE IN AZ. JUST A QUICK QUESTION TO ALL. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE NEW BEAR BOWS?? WE HAVE CONSIDERED BOTH BOWTECH & HOYT AS OUR HIGH LINES. STILL UP IN THE AIR ON WHICH ONE. YOUR OPINION WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! THANKS

Looking at it from a shop stand point, you may have to ask what is more popular in your area? I would think that Hoyt would be the better choice with less wait time for the bows. I think Ross is an up and coming line and should be considered behind the Bowtech and Hoyts. You might check out Pearson or even PSE since PSE is in Arizona. The AR and Browning lines seem to be good lower cost options. On the other hand, if you do choose Bowtech you can use their Diamond lineup of bows also.

If I walked into a shop tomorrow I would want to shoot a Hoyt Vectrix and a Ross Cardiac, after that it is a toss up. I am currently shooting a Bowtech Tribute and my wife shoots a Diamond Rapture Lite. I have shot Hoyt and PSE before and I liked the Hoyt better. I am still struggling with the short ATA on the Tribute. Good luck. Hope everything works out.

I dont own a shop but I am a customer. Why not carry as many top lines as you can? I have noticed that the 2 shops around here only carry what they think are the best. Also the guys at both shops here are not people persons. You need to make your customers feel like you want to help, not make them feel stupid like ours do.

I think you need to carry both Hoyt and Bowtech and I would take on the Bear line too and maybe a couple others as you grow. If you can get Hoyt and Bowtech and Bear you could have 5 lines of bows if you ask for the Reflex and Diamond lines. The successful shops today are able to offer brand diversity to please their client base. PSE has too many products in the big box stores to compete with that. Their new bows are nice but you aren't going to compete with the big boys so offer what they can't, you could lean toward Browning which is PSE and they have a great kids bow lineup. Make sure you offer quality products at 3-4 different price points for your customers. Treat your customers well and be a client oriented shop and you are on your way. Always remember to stress the service aspect of your business because the big box stores can't compete with that and you can make additional dollars tuning bows etc. If you put on a couple of shop shooters make sure they are the type that will refer you business and work with your client's. Good luck.

Thanks for the info. So far bowtech has the most fans. But like those other guys said, it's nice to have a varity to choose from. Someday we will Regards Derron

Yes, where in Az? I am a big fan of small archery shops and will drive out of my way to visit yours.
Why has nobody mentioned Mathews? You want to attract people then sell the best bows made and offer service on them. Most of the manufacturers you mentioned are sold at the big chains, Sportsmans Warehouse, Cabelas and soon Bass Pro Shops. Mathews is the lone hold out when it comes to the little shops, not to mention they make the best bow out there.

I would say Hoyt for sure. If U go to alot of 3-d shoots U will see Hoyt is top Dog. I think U cant go wrong with bow tec either but they do not get very much repersentation at the big shoots. Mathews sneaks in a few wins but the best shooters in the world shoot mainly Hoyts. Its just a fact. There is not a bow made today that is crappy but u will find some stand out. Other companys offer way more money to win big shoots but still 15 out of the top 20 best shooters in the US stick with hoyt. That should tell u something.

It will be in Joseph City Az. Stop in if your ever in the neighberhood. Regards Derron

>Will it be opened in Joseph
>City? If so you might
>go bankrupt in the first
>month. ;)

You might just be surprised? I look at as being in the perfect place to open a (little) shop. It's right off I-40. Its between Holbrook & Winslow. The only shop is in Holbrook. Hardly ever open. Hard to get service when nobody's around. We will be helping out those friends that love the sport. But hate the headache of not having a shop around to take care of them. Thanks for the advice!! Hope it works out for us, If not,you can't say we didn't try!!

I think a mixture of different bows and brands would be great. Each person has a bow in mind when they go in to buy one. I believe the sales rep should be very knowledgeable of all the bows on the market, not just the one they shoot personally or have sold lots of. This will be beneficial to your business and your coustomers.

I have heard that certain dealers have to be spread out like 30 plus miles to be able to sell, a brand, or product that is already being sold by a current bow shop...is that true?

Let say bow shop # 1 sells a Matthews... I decide to open up a shop and I want to sell the same bow, is there a rule or regulation in place for the distance between to two shops that sell the same product???

I like the Browning/PSE line of Bows personally, but... "to each his own!"

Thanks,
Shedreg!

I think you get what you pay for i got a diamond black ice and love it to death!!!

YOU AINT GOING TO KILL A BIG BUCK UNLESS THERE IS A BIG BUCK WHERE YOUR HUNTING!!!
