Hey guys and gals, I just want to extend an open invitation to anyone who likes to donate to worthwhile charities, especially those that help kids out, enjoy awesome BBQ and have a GREAT time camping and laughing. Or if you would like to donate an auction item, services, money..whatever...etc. pay attention to the following details.

7th Annual
Children's Justice Center Fundraiser Horse Ride, Auction and BBQ
Sept. 15th
9:30 am
Lake Mountain Trailhead in Uintah County
Dinner, Auction & Raffle at 4 pm

The Uintah Basin Chapter of the Back Country Horsemen of Utah holds a major fundraiser every year for the Children's Justice Centers of Roosevelt and Vernal (description of charity below). It's a horse ride(poker ride), auction, raffle and yummy BBQ (and it is gooo-ooood smoked meat!). Every item we have is donated by generous people and every dime we make goes to the CJCs. We've raised as much as 16k doing this and it's not only a worthwhile cause, but we've got good stuff to auction off and it's FUN. You won't find a crazier, funner bunch of people than the UBBCH bunch (A.K.A The Wild Bunch).

Bring horses or not...but be sure to bring your checkbook and a generous heart. The dinner and entertainment starts at 4 pm, auction will follow. And if you want to see some generous folks open up and go at it to get the price of an item in an auction UP...this is the auction for you. I've seen people buy weird stuff at this auction (like the creepy giant wooden lady statue my mom bought for $450 a few years ago...it just sits in her yard..lol) We even have a taxidermy mount up for auction this year.

The ride is Sept. 15th at 9:30 am at the Lake Mountain Trailhead, just past the cattle guard on the way up Mosby Mountain. Bring your camper or tent or whatever and stay the night. Ride pulls out at 9:30 am and gets back to camp around 3 ish then the dinner and auction follow.

We started this ride back in 2001 in memory of Roosevelt Police Chief Cecil F. Gurr who was killed in the line of duty...shot outside a Maverick convenient store in Roosevelt by some scumbag who was having a fight w/his wife. Chief Gurr was one of the main organizers of the CJCs, an organization that has helped thousands of abused children. The kids go to the CJC, a nice comfortable home, where they are cleaned up, loved and counseled by plain clothes officials. Cops can be intimidating so this is a trusting environment. The kids soon give their statements, they are videotaped and recorded and most times the kids don't have to go to court and face their abusers. It really helps conviction rates.

This year's ride is also in memory of Uintah County Sherriff's Detective Kevin Orr. Det. Orr was killed in a helicopter crash last year searching for the body of a missing woman. Orr also sat on the CJCs board and was a big supporter and proponent of this fundraiser.

It's a very worthwhile cause and it's alot of fun and it's great food.
