One Shot responds to critics...

Well the executive director responded and said anyone who is opposed to the one shot is simply ignorant. The more I am learning about this the less impressed with it I am...

I say they get rid of the rich politicians and allow a random draw for teams from the general public. Then beyond the 24 tags for the hunt, the other tags are a random draw for anyone who once hunted the hunt...

The could keep the one shot contest, and the participants could apply for one of the areas around Lander. If they're lucky enough to draw, they can hunt.

Supposedly there's a lot of competition for those areas. ;)

Im with ya elks96. The more i learn the more disgusted i get. Now they want to act like a bunch of cry babies.

What a joke...if Lander depends so heavily on the one shot hunt, I guess half the town is going to fold up since its not happening this year?

Its always funny how the one shot hunt leaves out so many of the details of what goes with the "hunt".

Not a word about the smoking jackets and cognac?

Not a word about how they exclude women from the hunt?

Not a word about how they didn't even bother to invite the current Governor of Colorado this year? Gee I wonder why he didn't get invited, I mean its a "traditional" competition between the CO and WY Governor?

Not a word about the fact that prior to a few people questioning the goings on with the water for wildlife foundation and, at that time, more than 50% of the water projects funded were outside the State of Wyoming. Nothing better than a discriminatory hunt, funded via Wyoming wildlife assets being used to fund water projects in Utah, Oklahoma, Texas, California, etc. Didn't hear about the water project they funded in South Africa either...funny that would be left out.

Then there's the "stag" events, where they issue licenses and there is no women allowed. Followed up by the good old boys club sipping cognac and wearing smoking jackets.

The losers, from a bunch of chumps that is hard to distinguish a winner, get the "honor" of being made fun of by dressing up as Native American women and performing a round dance.

Well, I guess on the bright side, the spouses of the "hunters" get to take guided shopping tours of Lander and participate in painting seminars. Maybe after all that entertainment, they can get back to the kitchen and make some sammiches for the mighty hunters, iron smoking jackets, and wash the cognac glasses.

Not to mention they get to set their own rules for tag distribution to the 80 participants, including, but not limited to a past shooters being able to transfer a license to anyone they want. A nice little ancillary benefit only enjoyed by 56 of the privileged and their buddies.

These things are the tip of the iceberg on the ridiculous nature of this "hunt".

This thing has long outlived its shelf life...time to put a stop to it.

cigars....whiskey....and no women?....I'm in

Yeah, they probably could use an official Boone and Crockett scorer. You could get B&C to sponsor you and you could represent the club at this awesome event. I'll let the staff in Missoula know about your plans...

I like this quote...……...“these 80 licenses are not out of the general draw quota and DO NOT affect the draw odds for the areas hunted.” So how many people are buying into that BS? They are harvesting wild animals from the state's available resource. If those 80 animals were not harvested, then 80 more tags could be available to public hunters! via the draw!!! so YES they ARE affecting opportunity for the average public hunter!

I would love to get a guaranteed tag every year for simply being a past participant.

My main objection to the contest is it does take tags out of the draw.

I don't think anyone cared about it back when Wyoming had tons of leftover public land pronghorn tags back in the day.

I don’t have a problem with

I don’t have a problem with any of the event other than, if they are using public lands and getting granted tags for the event. Have the event on private lands where tags can be obtained and have at it. Doesn’t sound like my kind of gig, but in these times we’re in, I am all for the freedom to do what you want if it doesn’t effect others. Make them buy their tags from land owners and set it up that way. Once they do that, everyone else needs to mind their own business.

I think Wyoming residents should pay the same price of tags as non residents that way there would be less bitching and would be fair to everyone ??

I think people like 264 should just stay home and hunt their own state and let Wyoming take care of Wyoming. I wish Wyoming would charge resident hunters more too ONLY if they cut NR tags to 10%for all species.

Groves I dont need to stay at home , I hunt other states but still contribute to the great state of Wyoming buying points , buying gas , motels and such when passing through to other States to hunt and look forward to hunting Wyoming when I draw a tag .

I agree, if they buy commission tags or get their tags through the regular draw, do what you want. Exclude women, make fun of Native Americans all you want. Wear your orange bandanas and make total fools of yourself, whatever.

But, when any "hunt competition" is receiving a state wildlife asset, without going through the draw process like everyone else, you can expect criticism. In particular when that hunt excludes women, mocks the native culture, and has some cloudy accountability on where the funds go. Wyoming Wildlife assets should NOT be used to raise money for water projects in Texas, California, Oklahoma, Utah, Nevada, etc. etc. and even South Africa. You should expect to be held accountable and answer some pretty pointed questions about why that is happening. You should expect to see FOIA requests on fund accounting, etc. State wildlife is held in trust for the citizens of Wyoming and for the direct benefit of same. I don't care for my Wyoming wildlife assets being used as a tool to fund discrimination, fund projects outside Wyoming, etc. If Texas needs water projects, hold a one shot feral hog or circus animal hunt there...use Texas assets to fund your water projects.

The one shot hunt, past shooters club, and water for wildlife foundation should not be surprised that the rightful owners of Wyoming Wildlife have a big problem with the way they're conducting business. It should be expected and really, they should feel lucky they've gotten away with it this long.

The times, they are a changing...

as you stated, there are lots of these programs leeching off the system. Get rid of all of them.

With all the anti hunters in America we should probably try and keep lawmakers/ politicians on our side. I never thought I’d see the day half of America is calling to shut down the police and such across the country. What are there a million Antelope in Wyoming ?

Let them draw tags and they can do whatever they want, but handing out 80 licenses that take a decade for people to draw doesn’t sit well with most.

I hunted unit 57 in 2018 and you could have given out 500 more tags , they looked like starving maggots , even the ranchers said there just wasn’t enough food for them , I’m not saying every year is like that but maybe the fish and game could have made adjustments, just my two cents.

We’re talking pronghorn not elk. Antelope in WY are like Jack rabbits in N.M.....millions of them. The Colorado Governors husband probably wouldn’t let him go hunting any way.

Ranchers want all the grass for themselves. Best bet is to believe the opposite of what any rancher tells you regarding wildlife...

All the ranchers I talked too were hunters and leveled headed about the wildlife
Do you remember their names? I know all the ranchers you would come across in 57 and I can only think of a handful that actually hunt...

Oh yeah, what ranchers did you talk to that own land in 57? I know most of them, and my wife shot a B&C buck in 57 that year on one of the largest landowners place.

Yeah, those poor pronghorn were on their last legs...WAFJ.

Obviously you don't know chit from low grade peanut butter about pronghorn, Wyoming, or unit 57.

There goes Buzz again. Being a dick, just because.....?
Because he can see through the BS???

The dick is 264mag. He should be apologizing for posting misinformation. Now THATS a dick move.

Oh those skinny pronghorns! You said enough when you called them maggots @264mag . How does it feel to have one of the best pronghorn tags in the west and you killed a little guy? Probably told all your friends it was a drought year and all the “maggots” were skinny...

I was in 53 across the HWY and didn’t see the same. Killed 82 inch buck and saw plenty bigger. They all looked super healthy.

What’s your definition of a little guy?
