on such a winters day, hey that's got a catchy sound to it. Hmmm__.
Oh, I'm sorry, I'm new here, Let me introduce myself. I'm Steve.
I've been reading this board since September and about a week ago I decided that I should sign up to share some of my Idaho hunting adventures. So I decided to try and come up with a cool username that showed my interest in hunting, Idaho and the fact that I am a nonresident hunter. That is kind of tough because all the good ones are taken. I had kind of settled on "stag" as a cool name, sounds pretty masculine right? So I did a search and what do you know? No stag62 no stag36 in fact no stag period. That kind of raised some red flags so I got to wondering whats wrong with stag. Then it hit me, no testies. OK, that makes sense. Who wants to be a stag? Then there was "Idahoresidentwannabe" - no, too long. "seveninchdropper" - no, not quite the truth. I really liked "Idahoneighbor" but my son said it sounded lame, what do 15 year olds know anyways? Idahodreamin, that's all I do anymore, just fits. Hope you like it.

hey steve WHAT UP????
you ain't gonna make many friends here if you go to posting all them sweet bucks you been killing in idaho..
lets see that sweet mulie you got last year..

Thanks for all the warm welcomes. I kind of expected not to see any as I can feel the coolness towards predators on this board. It seems nonresident hunters are disliked more than wolves with cougars a close 3rd. How is the winter treating you runamuk? Yeah I might post a pic of a nice muley I took, thanks to the help of a Idaho resident hunter whose name I won't mention, in November during a late buck draw hunt my son and I were lucky enough to get drawn for. I got the whitetail buck above on thanksgiving day in 07. Never thought I'd ever get a whitetail that nice. Having that one mounted. Since I screwed up the ear with the shot the taxidermist removed the ear from the smaller buck that my son shot to switch it out with. I think I'll have him turn them down into the fight position so it hides whatever differences there are.

The thought occurred to me that since I have a Montana Grizzly cap on, most of you would assume that I am from Montana. Actually, that's not true, I am from Washington. I was in the Nike outlet store looking for a cougars hat, all of them 30 or more dollars each, ouch. Then I spotted this one on clearance for 10 dollars and thought, well, the colors are right so I bought it. After reading this board for several months I have to say without trying to be offensive that it is pretty lame. It seems there are mainly only 2 types of posters here, those asking for your secret hunting hot spots and those more then willing to spill all they know. In my opinion, if Idaho hunting is going down the drain, it has more to do with the internet than with wolves and cougars. You will never find me asking for your hotspot nor will I tell you mine. There are hunting boards that I enjoy reading much more than this one where people just take about hunting and such. But this is the only one I can find that focuses on Idaho. Although there was a pretty good thread on some guy pouring bleach into a watering hole, that got intense, thought we might see some fisticuffs there. Again, I don't mean to be offensive, but it would be nice to see a little more chit chat here.

Welcome to the site and the state. We don't dislike non residents. Just Yahoo's. When you come back hopefully you'll get to pop a wolf or two. So make sure you buy a tag if they're available. I like the handle. I was Idaho dreamin until I moved here 11 1/2 years ago.
Its fair chase, or its foul!

>is that a BR hat?

I don't know what a BR hat is. It's a Montana Grizzlies hat.
I have only hunted Idaho the '07 and '08 season. But from what I have seen I like it. My son and I started of the 07 season in a couple of general season units for mule deer. That was pretty disappointing as I had this vision in my mind that nobody in Idaho would take anything under a 4 point. Boy was I wrong, they were taking and buck that moved, all spikes and 2 points. Everybody I talked to had the same story, they had never seen anything bigger than a 2 point. My son and I decided our best bet was to try for whitetails up North in the pan handle. In 4 days of hunting we saw zero does and only 2 bucks which we were lucky enough to take. Whitetail hunting is kind of boring, tracks everywhere, but no deer until the last 10 minutes of light. I think that is why they let you hunt them during the rut. You would never see them otherwise. I enjoy hunting mule deer much more. Here is the buck my son got this year, 08.
