I just bought a pair of Carl Zeiss Jena "Silvaren" 6x30 binoculars. They are in super clean, like new condition with case and unused strap but were made in 1953. They are as old as i am!

Not sure why i bought these other than i get compulsive from time to time and have long thought i could use a wider field of view, 150m @ 1000m, when hunting our very thick covered country local here about. Plus, they came at what i thought a reasonable auction price of near $100.

Any thoughts or info on quality of this item would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I cannot offer any info, but my opnion is this. Carl Zeiss makes excellent glass, and I'm sure that at the time the binoculars were second to none. Having said that, the technology is almost 60 years old now and with todays advancements in technology and p-coatings, they will not be able to compete against what Zeiss, Lieca, or Swarovki's have to offer. Just my two cents.
