ok here's the verdict, on scoring 3 point mule deer it depends on the antlers configuration. if it has a back fork on the 3 point side you get a fourth circumfrence measerment. if it has a front fork you only recieve 3 circumfrence measurments. i really dont care how many times you guys wrap your tapes around your antlers, but when you want someone to guess the score. lets atleast do it right. and let me just say i've met dozens of guy's that measure antlers and just because he might be a taxidermist doesn't mean he is an "official" measurer. hell, i have some sheds, a 198 typical and a 220 nontypical that maybe you guys can have rescored for me.(fyi i want them to be around 210 and 235) ok have fun lol lmao or whatever the kids are saying these days!

I have had my 2 bucks scored by a official measurer one is a 3x4 the other a 3x3, fork in the front and I have gotten 4 mass measurments. all they have done is went half way up the G-2. Idk maybe some official scorers are different who knows lol. (if you dont have eye gaurds then you only get 3 i think?) not sure though

Sounds like a reasonable explaination. I've never had a taxi score mine, Just Rusty Hall(Official B&C SCORER), and I speciffically asked him about 3 points. He told me what I stated early. And since he's not a taxi, but an (Official B&C SCORER) I just naturally took his word for it. I will say he did not mention configuration differences.

But these are sheds. They aren't going in no book, so does it really matter. Lets say you don't get the 4th circumference. He goes 174, now Zekers is the winner, and you stll missed it by 10 inches. Unless you are not gonna give him an inside spread, because they are just shed. Then you still missed it by 10 inches. All this is depending on what Slayer is using as the inside spread.

I'm ok with living the rest of my scoring days by your statement. Thanks for educating us.

Hornhunter,

I'm not sure where you are getting your info. If it was truly from an official measurer then I would be worried. This is directly from the B&C website. It is also the exact same for Pope and Young.

H: CIRCUMFERENCES
Circumferences are taken at the narrowest place as detailed in Figure C for each measurement. If the brow point is missing, take H-1 and H-2 at the smallest place between the burr and the G-2 point. If the G-3 point is missing, take H-3 halfway between the base and the tip of the G-2 point. If G-4 is missing, take H-4 halfway between the G-2 point and the tip of the main beam.

Hope this clears things up.

IB

People have been saying the same thing about a 5 point bull elk, "you don't get the H4 measurement if the G5 is missing".
LOL!!

Great post IdahoBugler, you are correct :)

well this should scare the crap out of all of us! i looked it up too and your right, i called him today and he said thats what he was taught, but he would check it out. i also checked the official measurers on the b&c web site and there he was. i've known him for years and he's one of my good friends. a little dissapointed. and now i have a few horns to rescore. and by that way i now have a 87" three point shed! no yellum i wont eat crow on this one i didn't feel i needed to do research on something that i could go directly to the source on! but everyone thats paid to have something put into the books should be worried!

Well good for you. I certainly don't have a 87 inch 3 point to brag about. Not even a 70. Like I said, they're just sheds. No harm done.

yeah i know, but i've been shed hunting for over 25 years and it used to be alot easier to find the big ones, and i dont keep anything under 80" or 170" anymore.

This is irony of all the score hype. While so many are so obsessed over inches, so few actually know what it means.

po, that's exactly why i thought i was trying to educate on this site. i only have ever wanted to find out 2 times the score on 3 point horns, my first archery deer a 165" 3x4 and a giant 3 pt shed i picked up on the kiabab years ago. i don't know how many times i get on here to see guys throwing out ridiculous numbers. or seen the disapointment on a hunters face when some idiot tells him to shoot a 350 bull and it turns out to be a 300" dink. yes i do only keep my big one's. only because i'm not going to fill my garage with thousands of antlers that you can't even look at or play with. and yes i do find that many. and hell i'm one of the nicest guys you'll ever come across, you guy's are more than welcome at my camp!

and
>yes i do find that
>many. and hell i'm one
>of the nicest guys you'll
>ever come across, you guy's
>are more than welcome at
>my camp!

I can vouch for that. hornhunter247 finds sheds. LOTS AND LOTS of gigantic sheds that most of us can only dream about. He was nice enough to invite me (a complete stranger) to join his shed hunting camp this year and it was a great time.

+1 neverstop. hornhunter247 is one of my good buddies. He knows his stuff, and I'll vouch for him any day! Although he did snipe a brown 6 from me this year! ;)

just remember deer and elk, ALL OF THEM WILL GET 4 MASS MEASUREMENTS, all of them. no matter how many points they have.

haha, thats not entirely true.

The turkey hunts and chad's bear hunt really put a stop to my shed hunting this spring, and since i wrecked my truck on the bear hunt i've pretty much a prisoner in my own home.

Don't worry jim, we'll hit the hills one of these days :)

Awholelotta- Man, I don't want to tag along with NeverStop (especially now he said he had to stop)! haha I want to tag along with hornhunter247, because Never wanted to tag along with him too! haha And he did say he was nice, so I was just testing him. Deer or elk, I am there. And no GPS coordinates to Wendy's in Beaver.

I only made it out 4 times and picked up a measely 52 antlers, the biggest deer was a brown 82" and the biggest elk was a brown 6 point side from a 300 bull. I need some help.

alright hornhog looks like your going to keep me on the defense a little longer, you side poached my horn! actually i'll start a new thread on that and lets see who's right. and po man your more than welcome come march to come hang out for a week with us, but if you like to wheeler it would be a good idea to leave it at home for this one! second week in march north az. send me a pm. but i dont go for quanity i just go to where you'll find a couple big one's. and neverstop dont worry i'll come up there and get you guys if you need, cant wait til jan to help you tag a monster!

I'm getting excited for january!

It will be fun to try and flip an arrow into one of those desert bucks!

We'll have to scout out some new shed spots while we're down there.

yeah i think i've just about got that all figured out! i'll be making a few trips over the next couple months, but i decided to hold off on pounding the unit until right before your hunt to help do some scouting. i keep hearing about some great spots for sheds and big deer but until i get there it's just one of those things.

Side poaching still hasn't been resolved as to whether or not it's ethical shed hunting technique. I could go on forever on the particulars like, who your with, if you can see on your side, etc...It all comes down to who spotted it first. And only you and I know the truth on the shed in question. I thought after you found the 400 side after I left, you would feel bad and ship me the crappy, broken 6pt anyway. Dude, you know I'm totally kidding, but we should open up the controversy horn for discussion. I think it would be fun!

You better not forget about me next spring NeverStopHuntin we need to go out a bunch more times it was fun, i had a good time.
