NR Deer or Elk? Utah 2012

So I just found out that if I don't at least apply for a bonus point in Utah this next coming year, I will lose all my previously accrued points. As you all know in order to apply, I need to purchase a license as well. It doesn't make much sense to me to purchase a license if I don't hunt. So I guess I need to start planning a Utah hunt of some sorts in 2012. I will be travelling from Texas and bringing my 14 year old son to hunt as well. We will most likely hunt the NE Region (yeah I know there are 30 different Units now so we will figure that out later). I just want to know if you think it would be better to hunt deer or elk?

Suggestions?

If you want to take your rifle for a walk, then choose deer.

If you want a chance at getting your hands bloody,go for elk.

lets take him pheasant hunting.

I have 7 points for Elk - too much to lose. Starting in 2009 the DWR ruled that if you did not apply at least once every 3 years then you will lose all your points, beginning after the final anterless draw of 2012. I last applied for a bonus point in 2007. Since I am now a non-resident, I haven't been able to afford to buy a license just to put in for points or a tag, let alone afford the $795 NR tag fee. This year I can however so I am going to put in for LE Elk (Bookcliffs) and hopefully I will draw within the next 20 years or so, though this would probably be the best year for me to draw.
