NM unit 17 results

This is the buck that one of my buddies took the last morning we hunted in 17 the first rifle hunt in NM. It's his first muley so I didn't dog him too much. The weather was warm and the moon full, .....I didn't see a shooter at all, first time this has happened in 5 times to this unit. Deer were scarce to say the least, we only saw about 5 or 6 legal (fork antlered) bucks during the hunt. Hope folks had better luck elsewhere,...but it is a beautiful place to hunt, shame it's 1,500 miles from home for me!

Im taking my son on a cow elk hut next week in unit 17. I have never been there and am looking for infoon the area. What part of the unit did you hunt? Did you see any elk where you were? Any water holes?
