Nikon Prostaff spotter?

I know the upper end glass is what to get but for hunting 2-3 days a year for deer I cannot justfy dropping that much coin. I can find a nikon prostaff demo for $300. My question is does any have any first hand experiance with this spotter? I read all the cabelas reviews from people who had bought them and the only complaint was against the tripod. Also would me willing to look at a Nikon XL II. I did a side by side comparision at sportsmans and thought the pro staff had the edge.

my buddy has the 82mm one and it seems to be very nice glass. The tripod is a POS and the eyepiece is a bit uncomfortable but the glass is very clear. In my oppinion its the best glass you can buy for that price.
