So I am thinking my son might love to go look for sheds (he thinks antlers are really cool) I just have no idea how to go about it. When can you start looking, and are there spedific areas that you look in? or is it just the luck of the draw?

Deer usually shed around Jan-March...depending on what your area.
Go out before then and scout around...usually the deer wont shed too far from where they are around December-January...once you find an area look for other areas with similar surroundings and you shouldnt have trouble finding a few...unless I beat you to them!....LOL
Good Luck....your son will really enjoy it once he finds a few

The more time u spend in the mountains the more luck u have, or skill of finding shed areas. Just start hiking or horseback riding in early feb or late jan to see the tracks or animals that u want to find, they normally don't go far in the winter from where they like to stay. Just keep going too, its to easy to give up, but sooner or later that Big ONe, will come to you and everyone knows the feeling of find that monster shed.
Good luck this spring.

First off I would go riding your horse during jan. or feb. your just going to kill deer. I have watched deer nose dive in the snow after somebody went walking for horns and chased deer. If your going to do it take some vacation during that time find the deer you want the sheds to, watch him until he drops, and wait for him to feed off. This may take weeks but its a heck of alot better than making one deer run and possibly killing the deer. Pick up the set you want and wait for the snow to melt to go get the rest.
