My bro and his girlfriend got a lab pup recently. I told my bro he should try working with it to find sheds. He began by just throwing them out in the yard and letting him find them.He started finding them and bringing them to the house. My bro then had him doing some blind retrieves, the dog had no problem doing that as well. The pup is now doing double blind retrieves.I think this dog has alot of potential. He's doing great, especially for a pup.

Here's some pics of leo.

Beautiful dog. Looks like he's gettin' er figured out. I've been debating the idea of a shed dog to help me find them before the dang rodents. I have a lab/cross already. Temperment wise, she's the best dog I've ever had. But whatever she's crossed with overrides the Lab in her when it comes to retrieving stuff.

I've often thought of getting a dog to help shed hunt too. I don't get out too often, so I'd liek to make the most of the times I get to. Here in ND the deer don't really have a "winter range" they pretty much stay in the same areas all year. The sheds can be very spread out and I think a dog would help. Problem is, I don't have much, if any, free time to be training a dog right now, so it'll have to wait. BTW, thanks for the pics, and adding some fuel to the fire.

How do you think that would effect a good waterfowl dog after training him to find antlers? I'd hate to ruin a good waterfowl dog for antlers, and vice versa....
I can see it now, you shoot a duck in some bottomland willows, and the dog bails in, and returns with an antler? Confusing for a dog?
Just wondering? What are your thoughts?

I can't speak for other dogs/owners, but my dog makes the transition just fine every year. He knows when we are hunting birds and hunts them intensely. He also seems to know when I'm hunting antlers and kicks butt on dem bones too! He definitely makes it fun to brag about him! Don't know that I'll ever be able to replace him.

Hey huntemup..
That looks like it works pretty good...
Guess I had better start throwing elk bones for the pup to retrieve...
And that looks like a pretty good bone in the first picture, too...
And a good looking dog to boot!!!! Thx
