New Hoyt or New Matthews

Just what we need, another Hoyt /Mathews bashing contest, eh?

Actually, I have owned Matthews bows now for the last 12 years and I have had a lot of friends with both Matthews and Hoyt. Both are wonderful bows, no doubt. I recently went into my favorite local archery shop and there were the twno new bows side by side. It is really something to see the Hoyt with the parrellel limbs. It simply looks amazing!

Here is my question for those that have the chance to hold both models. Does the Hoyt feel heavy and a bit out of balance? I held last year's Hoyt and it felt great, but this new bow doesn't quite feel right. My friend, an avid Hoyt Shooter, went in right after me and without any prodding on my part told me that he did not like the feel of the bow compared to the Switchback. Obviously, I like Matthews because they have never let me down, so I don't think this is Matthews bias speaking. I also realize that comfort lies in the hands of the beholder and what feels right to one doesn't feel right to another. I just wonder if this move might backfire on Hoyt.

Not looking to incite a riot or trying to spawn ingnorant flaming posts, I'm just looking to see if others feel the same after checking ot the Hoyt.

I think Hoyt will have record sales on their Trykon series this year......:)

I agree felt a little odd to me as well i shot both the Trykon and the Switchback XT and ended up ordering the Xt as it felt more comfortable to me. They are both great looking bows.

Hoyt with parallel limbs? Hmm.....who are they TRYING to copy?!
JUST KIDDING. Both are great bows.......shoot what feels the best.

The Trykon already is selling at a faster pace then they imagined. One of the guys I shoot 3D'S with just got his Trykon and loves it! N2 both companies make some great bows and you're right shoot them and go with the one you feel the most comfortable with. But since you're looking at those two may as well look at the Bowtechs as well so you can really see how far the technology has come. All 3 companies make a great product. I still shoot a Hoyt Ultratec but I wouldn't hesitate to buy any of those parallel limb models the three make today!

New BowTech. The Old Glory and Allegiance are very smooth and finally got rid of the recoil BowTech has been known for. Mathews are nice but the new BowTech line is super sweet. Never been a fan of hoyt.

It would be a mistake not to check out the Bowtechs. Allegiance, Old Glory, Tribute or the SC Patriot are top drawer. I've shot the Switchback and was duly impressed--it's alot like the newer Patriots, except perhaps a little deader in the hand. Absolutely nothing bad to say about the Switchback. Unfortunately, I haven't shot the new Hoyts. I'm a real fan of the Bowtech Allegiance. At 60lbs, it will shoot 400 gr arrows at 275-280fps with a full string. That's as fast as many of the top bows will shoot 400g arrows with a full string at 70lbs! My shoulder's are real excited about shooting these speeds at only 60lbs! I'd have to be chasing big bears or African critters to need anthing more than that when using good coc broadheads. I'm in the process of selling a couple of 70lb Patriots as a result--they've been made obsolete.

I was in the local shop today and shot the bowtech tribute and mathews xt, both were nice but I expect that of mathews because they are so highly praised for so long. The tribute felt better balanced to me and set at the same poundage with the same arrow the tribute was shooting 19 feet per second faster according to the chrono! That is a big difference.
The hoyt felt awkward to me although I like the trykon more than any other hoyt that I have shot. Balance just didn't seem right.

Coming from a guy that does his best to break the bank every year and buys the lastest and greatest stuff(and currenty shooting a hoyt)--I would definately look at Bowtech. From top to bottom they have hands down the best lineup available. If you're looking for stricly a huntin' bow, look at the Allegience or the Tribute--both incredible bows.

I'm a Hoyt owner, and my 2004 bow will have to last me for another 2 or 3 years. I drew both bows in the archery shop, but didn't have a chance to shoot them both.

I liked the draw smoothness of the Matthews. When I shot my buddied SB XT I was amazed at the absence of any hand shock whatsoever. The only noise was the string and I think that was due to the limbs being so quiet that you heard the string.

The weight of the SB XT surprised me It was heavier, and the grip was a little small (height) for my hands.

now I've never even picked up a Bowtech, so i can't comment there. But in a couple of years, I'll be looking at these "new Fangled " bows

You owe it to yourself to at least try the new Bowtechs. Either the Tribute or the Allegiance. I have last years Allegiance and this years Tribute. The Tribute is phenomenal. Fast and super smooth with a short 31.5 ATA (that holds and shoots like a 34" + bow) and a very forgiving 7 1/2 inch brace height.
I also have a Switchback and while its very smooth and accurate, its a bit slow for my taste and the Mathews grips have never been very comfy IMO.
I have a Trykon on "loan" that I've been testing and playing around with. Its a great shooter and pretty quick. I dont care for the way it held at full draw (the wall) and is a tad heavy feeling.
These are all GREAT bows built by great bow companies, but your best bet is to go and shoot them all and see which feels best to you. Its your dough that your spending, not ours. Best of luck!!

How do you compare the Tribute to last year's Allegiance?
I just bought a closeout 70# '05 Allegiance for below cost.
I haven't even had a chance to shoot it.
I did set it up with all the goodies.
Spothogg, TT dropaway, SVL stuff etc.
This bow sure feels a lot different than my '04 Pro 40.
CAN'T WAIT TO SHOOT IT!

Both of mine are at 28"/70# and shooting a 365 grn finished arrow. Nothing on the strings but a Fletcher peep and a d-loop and serving. I use an STS on my bows for string suppression.

05 Allegiance- 306 fps. Dead in the hand at the shot. Slight noise but still very quiet. The hump is very "up front". Rock solid back wall. Nice, narrow grip.

06 Tribute- 298 fps. Dead-er in the hand and quieter than the above. Take a look at the super parallel limbs and you'll see why (far less forward movement). Bowtech changed the grip angle ever so slightly which I find to be more comfortable, also. Rock solid back wall. I have the fast modules in mine which some say are rougher than last years cams. I find them quite a bit smoother, personally. The neat thing with these new cams is that you have the option to use either "smooth" or "fast" modules. Using the smooth mods you will lose between 6-8 fps. from the fast mods. Hope this helps. You've got a great bow. Now go shoot it!!

Sorry, I didnt mean to hi-jack!!

Well I have worked at an archery shop for over a year now and can practice with both bows whenever i want and i think personally myself that the matthews are smoother and quieter but the hoyt seems to be faster and a little stiffer. But the new allegence is an awesome bow i have sold more of those than anything and they are stiff but man there fast and shooter friendly.

A bud of mine shot the best round of 3d'S with his new trykon that he has ever shot in his life improving 20 points total. He has only had the bow 2 weeks. You should have seen the smile on that dudes face. Try telling him it's not the best bow he's ever shot. The rest of my friends that have bought trykons really like them as well. I may be forced to give up my ultratec.

Another bud just bought the switchback XT and he's shooting it quite well also. Two others just bought Bowtech's and they think they are sweet. These new bows just keep getting better and better.

"These new bows just keep getting better and better". Couldn't have said it better myself! You really can't go wrong with any of the bows that have been mentioned.

The question was New Hoyt or new mathews....My vote is with Mathews. I've owned both, loved them both. But I give my nod to mathews.

I think any of the new bows are great although I love the new Tribute! I think its a matter of shooting them and then picking the one that fits you the best!

Go shoot a bowtech allegiance or tribute. You'll be happy you did. Make sure you shoot it set up the same as the other bows you shoot. One set at 60lbs will feel a whole lot nicer than the other set at 70lbs. Shoot the same arrows as well.
