New Bow

I am currently looking for a new bow. I am fourteen years old 5'8 130lbs. My primary use for this bow will be for elk hunting in my home state Colorado and various places. I am currently shooting my dad's old PSE that has a 29' draw length and 65lbs of draw, which I shoot pretty good. I am looking for something in the 60-65lb draw that shoots 300fps. I have currently been looking into the Hoyt Trykon and Matthews Switchback but not much farther. I know there are some other good bows out there such as Parker,Ross,Bowtech,Martain ex. I was just looking for anyone with some good suggestions on the topic.

Every major bow maker will have what you are looking for. Mathews, Hoyt, Bowtech...

What you want to do is head to a pro shop and shoot everything you can. Find a bow that fits you. Everybody likes something different. Differet grips, draw cycle, etc. The one piece of advice I might suggest is stay away from a mathews, not because they are bad bows, they are great, but because of the draw lenght adjustments, you have to swap the entire cam out every time you wanna change your draw lenght.

Now for the plug... I shoot an alpine avalache and love it:), its smooth and quiet. Don't over look "smaller" brand names such as Alpine or Diamond(made by bowtech) because of the name. They still produce great bows.

Good luck.

Kirby

When in doubt, floor it.

I'd second what Kirby said about the Mathews. Unless you know you are done growing, you will grow out of the Mathews and will have to get an realatively expensive cam set. Somewhere near $100.00. Go to a pro shop and shoot, shoot, shoot!!! By the way, I shoot a Mathews but I'm also 49 years old and done growing!!!

I would agree with the previous posts. I would also add that you stay away from the Trykon as well, it has the same issue of chnging cams to change draw length. On Bowtech you can change draw length modules for about $30 on any 06' or 07' year model. I would suggest that you try a Hoyt vtec or something with a cam and a half. It will allow you to have an easy draw length adjustment without buying anything and you can adjust it without a bow press. If you want to save some money on a good bow look into the Diamond lineup of bows. I have shot PSE, Hoyt, and now Bowtech. I liked the hoyt bows and would not hesitate to buy another. Still making up my mind on the Bowtech Tribute, seems nice so far.

Thanks guys for all the help. I have looked into the Diomand Liberty on basspro. It seems like they are pretty good bows has anyone ever shot one.
