New bow?

Hey guys,

I am relatively new to shooting sticks, and am looking to get a new bow. When I first started three years ago, I wasn't sure if I would like it, and I didn't have a bunch of money to invest, so I bought a cheap bow, a Reflex Gamegetter. I have gotten really comfortable eith this bow, and shoot it well, but it is a bear to pack around the woods all day. Now that I know that it is something that I am going to stick with it, I would like to get a little shorter and a little lighter bow, but still don't have a bunch of money to spend. I would like to step up in the world, but money is going to limit how big a step I can take. I have been looking at a couple different ones, and haven't shot either yet, but would like your opinion as to which one would be the better bow in my price range. Here is the skinny;

I can get a new 2005 Diamond Rapture for $300.00 or a Reflex Excursion for $300.00. The Rapture is a bit lighter and a bit shorter, but i don't know much about them. I like my current Reflex bow, so I feel like I can get behind the excursion because of the name on the limb. Is the Rapture a good bow? Let me know what you all think. Thanks in advance.

The rapture is a very good bow, I shoot both the diamond triumph and victory, go shoot one see if you like it. Diamond is made by bowtech, you will get the same craftsmenship and warrenty as there high end bows.

LAST EDITED ON Jul-08-06 AT 10:06PM (MST)[p]IMO - Go with the best bow you can afford. I have bowhunted for over 20 years and had 3 different bows. I bought my last one last year. I have shot Hoyt, Bowtech, and Reflex bows. Some people get new bows all the time but it sounds like you are in the same boat I am in (funds are tight). I take care of my equipment and usually have it for a long time so my suggestion is to shoot them all and pick one out that you can afford but go with the one that feels and shoots the best for you. I am currently shooting an Alpine Avalanche Match Grade (I am field testing it for Alpine Archery/Eastmans Hunting Journal). It is one of the lightest and quiet bows I have shot. I really like it. I know that their Denali is a great bow too and I believe it retails somwhere around $400.00. Get the Match Grade setup as it comes with sites, quiver, stabilizer and rest that have been made for that specific bow at an all-inclusive price. Good Luck.

Thanks for the advice guys. I decided that since I only live an hour and a half from the Bowtech factory, I would go up and shoot the Rapture. I knew going up that I wouldn't be getting a bow from the factory proshop,because of the funding issue. But I also knew that it would be a great opportunity to shoot the bow that I was interested in. I shot the rapture and liked it a lot. I also shot a factory second 2004 Bowtech Tomkat that they had at a fairly reasonable price. I could have walked out with that bow, but it was a bit more than I had with me, and the 2005 rapture had a bit more velocity and was lighter. I came home and went and shot a Reflex Excursion at a local shop. It felt alright, but not like the Diamond, so I went ahead and ordered the Rapture and should have it in a couple of days. I appreciate you guys getting me in the mind set of not buying one until I shot them both. It made all the difference in the world and I am confident that I made the best decision for me with the limited funds that I had to work with. Good luck to you this upcoming season, and hopefully, we can exchange pics on this forum later this fall.
