Hi ya'll! Having just come back to bowhunting after a few years, I bought a buddie's Mathews Ultra 2 bow. It's set up sweet, and I now get to learn how to use a release. However, I've now found out from a bow shop that the draw length is 3 inches too long. I can get it down to the right length if I change out the cam, idler, and string. The shop thinks that this bow will be rippin' with a shorter draw length and will be a bit easier for me to pull.

I got the bow for a rippin' deal, so I'm wondering what you would do? Get a new bow at the right length or go for it with the Ultra 2?

you will probably be money a head to just get it to your draw length. that way if you decide to or not to bow hunt your not out the price of a new one.. good luck.

Well man I would say to just hang onto the old one and change out the things that ya need too. I really don't think that you could find a good bow for the price that it is gonna cost ya to get the one you have ready to go for ya.
But that's just my opinion..... Good Luck

I will have to agree. The cam and string, cable should cost around $150 and it is is a sweet little bow!

LAST EDITED ON Jul-09-05 AT 07:29PM (MST)[p]The ultra 2 is a few years old so I would check around with different pro shops to see if they may have a used cam in your draw length. A new one should run about $90 and a used one quite a bit less. Why do you need to change the string and bus cable? I have never had to change strings when switching cams on Mathews bows, my ultra 2 included. I'm not saying that you don't need to change them but I would check around and make sure that someone isn't trying to sell you a string. I've never heard of changing the idler, either. Did they say why they had to do that?

With just a different cam, I can only get the draw length down to 26 inches. With a cam and idle wheel, we can get it down to my true draw length of 25 inches. And you guys have it right, I was quoted 150.00 for the job.

A new bow (just the bow) would be 500.00. This one already has a TT arrow rest, high visibility sights, peep and SIMS. I have a quiver that I can attach.

I think the $150.00 is a low price tag for an outstanding bow that's fully loaded. Most important thing is, if it feels good in your hand go for it. It's a smooth shooter that's fairly quiet and will spit arrows as fast as you'll need 'em......oh yeah, welcome back to the bowhunting world. :)

Now it makes sense. I didn't realize that you would be going that short on your draw. You'll enjoy the ultra.
