Nevada Quake?

....had something to do with cheney and bush being mean to that satelite.......

JB

I heard it had something to do with harmonics and a gang bang at the Mustang Ranch or maybe that's whoremonics!

RUS

Im in Elko now and thats only 50 miles from the quake center. It woke me up. Shook the house hard for about 10 seconds. Four buildings in Wells had damage and hwy93 is closed both ways due to gas leaks.

nevadaanimatedhelmetwd2.gif

Wells, should have knocked everything off the foundation there and no great lost.
RUS, your out of touch with Mustang, it was and is History and was farther west like 270 miles. LOL

In Wells, it would be Bella's....had coffee there LOL.

Brian

Saw some pictures of some pretty fair damage to some of the older buildings in Wells. Bricks fell off of walls and stuff like that. I'm 250 miles away so I didn't feel it.

Timberline_shed, why do you wish you could have been there? So you could feel an earthquake? I was in LA during the Northridge quake on Martin Luther King Day, 1994. It was scary to me. And I felt instantly sick to my stomach. There was water bucking out of the pool in the back yard of the house I was at. One was enough for me. I'd rather not ever be in one again.

COULD SOMEBODY GO TAKE A CLOSER LOOK???

nv WAS ON HIS WAY OVER TO THE 2 CAT HOUSES THERE IN WELLS & NOW HE'S WORRIED RATHER THEY ARE SAFE ANYMORE???

HE CLAIMS THERES ONLY 2 BUILDINGS IN WELLS WORTH WORRYING ABOUT!!!

THIS IS MY NEW GUN,YOU MAY NOT LIKE IT,YOU'LL LIKE IT A HELL OF A LOT LESS WHEN IT HITS ITS DESTINATION!!!

This happened only a few miles from where we elk hunted in October. The rancher, the one my buddy got his LO tag through, lives in a manufactured home in Independence Valley, couldn't have been more than 5-6 miles from the epicenter from the way it was described on the radio. I'll have to find out what happened to his place and post it here. He lives about 7 miles east of Wells, and about 1/2 mile south of I-80.

Timber, this falls under the catagory of something you can miss in your lifetime. I've been in a fair number over the years, as I live near Sacramento.

The last big one I felt was the Loma Prieta that devastated the Bay Area. We'd just finished building a tilt-up warehouse, and I was in our office there. I was standing in the men's room, taking a leak. All of a sudden I started swaying back and forth and couldn't maintain my balance, or even hit my target! I honestly thought I was having a stroke or some kind of neurological problem, right until I heard the building start popping and groaning. Right then, I knew we were having an earthquake, I just didn't know it was over 100 miles away. We got on the radio and started hearing the reports come in. It didn't sound so bad until we heard the Bayshore Freeway had collapsed, and part of the Bay Bridge as well. Right then, we knew it was real bad.

If you haven't experienced one, you don't really need to, trust me. Now if you want something that's really scary, I'd really hate to be anywhere near a tornado!

Living in Humboldt Co. Kali, I've been through many, many earthquakes. Some in the 7.0 plus catagory. We've had water splash out the toilet. One time our refrigerator "walked" out into the middle of the kitchen.

Everytime one hits, you hold your breath waiting for it to stop. The ones that wake you up in the middle of the night are the worst.

We have earthquake latches on all the cabinets. Hot water heater straps. Know where the main natural gas valve is and how to shut it off. Keep a generator in good working order. Plenty of bottled drinking water. I keep 10 sheets of 1/4" plywood in the garage for boarding up broken windows etc. Keep plenty of fresh batteries and a good radio. And plenty of propane for cooking.

Other than that, earthquakes are fun!

Have them hit often in this area and one of the last ones I was right here on the computer when it rumbled through. About a minute after it stop the wife came in here and said to me, "did you feel that"? I said WHAT.

She got PO'ed at me for that one. LOL One of these days I will have a real bad one as my house sits right on the Rodgers Fault that runs north and south under our area.

They area a weird affect so don't get your hopes up for me, it might be one you don't want to be in.

Overton,

Ransom I don't and have never entered one of these establishments just know the facts about them. In fact, from what I read, the old Mustang trailer/modules are now over at that new place a bit east of Mustang. Don't remember the name but signs on I-80 say the name. That owner bought the old Mustang buildings from the GOVT through an auction I think.

Brian

I know a guy who went to the Mustang Ranch when it first opened. Back then they couldn't afford women so they were running it by hand.

I just saw a news report on our local late news here in Sacramento. WELLS WAS DEVASTATED BY TODAY'S QUAKE. Many of the buildings downtown are severly damaged, and many of the homes in town also sustained heavy damage. The news reporter said that most of the buildings in Wells sustained moderate to severe damage, and there were a fair number of injuries as well. They showed pictures of the old hotel in dowtown, and much of the brick had fallen off, crushing several cars parked outside. Several people interviewed said the town has never suffered anything like this before.

They've set up a shelter in Elko for any Wells resdidents who need a place to stay. It looked plenty cold in the video, with snow on the ground and wind.

These people need our prayers now, more than ever. If you know anyone in Wells, you might want to try to contact them to see if they need assistance.

those pictures were taken before the dang eathquake, they just wanna blame it on the quake so the government will pay to fix that hole up a bit!

I'm sorry, but you're not funny. If you saw the same news report, you'd be stunned at how bad the damage appeared to be.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-21-08 AT 11:48PM (MST)[p]If you've ever been to wells you may see it my way? And you dont have to be sorry, i'm not.

This really may be good for them. new vinyl siding on their trailers, fresh canned food in the stores(rotating their shelves)i bet they even get a few new girls come to town while the contractors are there fixing it up. Great for the local economy!

I spent a week just east of there in October, elk hunting. I know exactly what the town is like. Still not funny.

Your just flat mean.

Felt it in Taylorsville Utah, shook the bed and rattled stuff on the dresser. I was looking for my kids to see if they were pulling a prank on me.

"Your just flat mean."

Probably typical of the people that populate A-hole Alabama or wherever our hero here is from.

Wells people are by and large a better class of people than the ones that come from out of state to harvest the local fauna.

Probably be some of the first ones to help their snobby-assed, better than thou neighbors to the east if something like this happened over there.

Why in the hell are you picking on me, I was only telling tageater that was a mean thing to post.

Show me where i wished any harm to the fine folks of wells?Did i saying anything about the class of people, no! I bet they are fine folks that aint seen this kinda excitement....well ever, and i'm sure it feels devistating to them. But to compare wells and this little earthquake to the likes of a San Fran quake or the devistation of a cat. 5 hurricane you're saddly mistaken --- now thats devistation. The people of wells will be fine.

I did make a funny remark about the state of their fine city by saying that it was a hole....now they get to fix the hole a bit!

I am not snobby...or better than thou,I come from a chit hole town too, but I can admit it. and i'm not taking what comes out your pie hole as serious as you are taking what i say. relax.

Edit: i dont come over to hunt your fine state that would be caelknut, and i believe you are right about the people being better than those that come from out of state to hunt.
Get your thick skin on, boys

Tag, that hole you refer to just happens to be home to some 1200+ people (I've family there). I felt it a bit callous that, that out of the blue, for no reason, you chose to poke fun at others' misfortune. It came across that way to me at least, ergo my response. If your home town was creamed by a hurricane or tornado, I can't even imagine calling that place a hole. Its home to some, and an important part of your time-line.

Talking with folks over there, you are correct that the damage isn't Katrina like in scope, but remember, it was the Utah Media that ramped this up, not the residents of Wells. Wells is in the media market for SLC. Add that to the fact that an earthquake,or natural disaster of that scope hasn't happened in this "market" for quite some time (aside from wildfires, but they are common place in this neck of the woods) and you got "news." Pick any little town with not much going on in Ut, and you would've gotten the same information. Sensationalism.

No harm no foul. Take care.

My reply wasn't out of the blue if you know me( how could you) i've called that area a hole for years. Not the people. just the fact that it is a little hole in the big map, away from it all.

You are correct in the fact that the SLC media blew this way out of shape. They always do.That is why i didn't believe it to be as tragic as claimed. and if this had happened in any little hole town like say stockton ut, i'd have said the same about that. not to poke fun of the misforune but to congragulate them on the new facades they are about to recieve.

No harm/foul meant,
477ae34e5b284072.jpg

SLC media? The stuff I saw was with a reporter from Sacramento, and with buildings that had partially collapsed and cars that were crushed by falling debris, I don't think it was any less devastating for the people who live there than the more widespread disasters that get more media attention. When you own a hotel and the brick walls come crashing down, that's pretty bad, unless you live hundreds of miles away and try to rationalize how it's worse elsewhere.

Tag, I hate to disappoint you, but I hope to be hunting back in that area again this coming fall. There is some very good hunting in the country surrounding Wells, and the people who live there are fine folks.

You might want to pick on me since I live in California, but I could care less. I have lots of family who's roots go way back in Nevada. My mom was born and raised in Lovelock (surely a "hole" in your view), and other family members whose Nevada lives date back to the late '20s. My great grandparents were farmers who were some of the people who pioneered the settlement of Lovelock and lived there through their entire lives, my great grandparents and granparents are all buried in Lovelock. My great uncle moved from Lovelock to Reno in his twenties and was one of the pioneers who helped develop the gaming industry in Reno back in the 1930s. He owned several bingo parlors and eventually casinos in Reno back in the 40's and into the '60s. Other family member include people in Fallon, including another great uncle who was one of the three town doctors in Fallon for many years back in the 1960s. That's probably not close enough for you, but again, I could care less.

When something like this earthquake happens, it really brings it home as to what matters and what's really not that important. The safety of your family and friends are at the top of the list. Houses and buildings can be replaced or fixed. Events like this are actually a good reminder of how vulnerable we are to nature. Nature can jump up and bite any of us at any time. Fire, floods, drought, snow, tornadoes, wind, earthquakes, etc.

I've been through Wells on many occassions but have never stopped there. I'm sure the residents there are a very hardy bunch, and they will roll up their sleeves and do what has to be done. And be stronger as individuals and as a community. I've seen it first hand where I live. I helped a friends neighbor rebuild his brick chimney back in 1992, when we had three eathquakes in one day, a 7.2, a 6.6 and a 6.7.

And after the dust settles, a little sense of humor goes a long ways to help ease the stress and tension.

It wasn't that long ago that I suggested to my wife that we should move to Eastern Nevada to get away from all the earthquakes! Wrong! LOL!

Where do you think Sac town got their info? did they send a reporter? f no, they picked it up off the wire, and chose a pic that would show the ONE car that took a blow from a 130 year old building. I do believe these people feel devistated but once they take a step back they'll realize it just wasn't all that bad.

A hole is not a bad thing, a hole is just that, a place to hide? get away from it all, why you think a hole is bad i dont know. Its just how i refer to little po dunk towns. Is that bad? i hope not it just means homey, a little behind the times maybe, but certainly not bad. My country azz may need to find some new words for all you city slickin politically correctness pushin worm herders.

I was not the one that refered to out of state hunters as anything...i refer you to post 32. feel free to hunt where you will. And good luck on the hunt, i mean it.I am also not trying divert any attention away from myself, but take a look at post 9( well before my post) --- Its mis-timed humor neither of us really believe that wells would be better off gone!

NOW- i'm gonna preface this with a note. I will quote a comedian in 5 seconds: (tell me if you know who it is)
the trip down geneology lane was fun, your what 4th generation nevadan? I'm third generation dont give a sh!t.
I really dont-

I am sorry my humor at a time of this national crisis was a little off timed, please forgive me i will work on my timing ---jd

I was working in Elko and stopped by the fly J in Wells just a couple hours before it hit. Damn I hope my girls are ok. When I head back I will give ya an update. The guys that left behind me at Elko said things were rocking and rolling. Every building had some kind of damage. At first when I heard the news I figured it was me kicking dirt along 80 because I broke down between Wells and Wendover. Good thing I repented for all the cuss words. I got things going after I took the hammer to the computer.

This hit last night up north of here, I never felt a thing must have been the same time there was a crash on the Chat Website LOL.

4.1-magnitude quake rattles The Geysers
A large earthquake rattled The Geysers area Saturday night, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

A 4.1-magnitude quake was recorded at 9:32 p.m., centered about a mile north of The Geysers geothermal fields and 26 miles north-northwest of Santa Rosa.

Its depth was about a mile underground, according to the USGS.

No damage or other incidents were reported.

Earthquakes in the magnitude-two range are fairly common in the rural area.

Since the 4.1 quake, more than 20 smaller shakers have been recorded in the same general area, the largest two registering at 2.8 and 2.9 on the Richter scale as of mid-morning Sunday.

More details about the seismic activity can be found at http://earthquake.usgs.gov.

I work up at the Geysers and was here last night for the 4.1 quake. I was sitting in the control room and it hit pretty hard. Scared the hell out of me, lots of alarms, but luckily nothing tripped. Felt 2 other quakes last night too. Have them all the time up here.

i just want to show the 4th or 5th generation Nevadians that the a-hole from alabama( who now lives in SLC) aint all a-hole! I'm an enigma!

I do believe there is some state funding(if i heared right) but just not as much. I just thought i'd pass it on.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-08 AT 06:30PM (MST)[p]Just did a google search and read a couple reports. Glad to hear that no one died and only a few were injured. Sounds like it could have been way worse, 6.0 is up there.

Kinda easy to make light of their situation cause i've been in a few good shakers myself. Once the fridge rumbled across the kitchen, then bounced up and landed on it's door. Another time, a buddy and i were in his garage when the walls started swaying side to side like a house of cards. Good thing his garage door wasn't locked cause i mighta busted right through it getting outa there.

Something like this makes me want to load up my plumbing truck with materials and threading machine, get over there and see if i can't be of help to some folks that need it. I gotta finish a small job tomorrow, we'll see...

tageater, that photo of Geyser......those are FEMA houses built after the last quake. Ransom doesn't own that house, he's just renting.

You guys are all a hoot! LOL!
