I was super lucky and drew a non resident archery elk tag in NV with 4 points. I had been down to scout 3 times previously and found a few on the 2nd trip and a pile on the 3rd trip so I at least had a good place to start.
I also had an archery deer tag in different units so I hunted a couple days for deer and then moved camp on Monday afternoon to get camp setup and do a little glassing that evening before dark. Didn't see a ton that evening, so I decided to just hit the glassing knob opening morning. Saw a few bulls in a draw that was going to be tough to get into quietly or even shoot in. Lots of aspen, scrub aspen stands that are just thick and they just disappear into them.
Long story short version, I was in bow range of bulls each day. Some were raghorns and some big and I would have shot with different circumstances. I shot the biggest one that was in bow range, but probably not the biggest that I saw. Couldn't be happier with the one I shot though. I've been bowhunting Idaho for 20 years and my goal with this tag was just to join the 300 club as all my bigger idaho bulls were 280-290 range. This one definitely made it. 51-52" main beams and lots of mass. I don't know what he actually scores, but guessing it is in the 340-345 range.
Here are a view video (not the greatest)of bulls that I captured.
Day 1 Bull
Day 2 Bull
Day 2 rubbing velvet
Day 3 Bull
Here are a few pictures of the bull. My good buddy Ben came and helped me pack him out. Appreciate the willingness to drive down and help on short notice.
