Hey guys, I am getting ready to leave tomorrow morning for our archery hunt up in North-Eastern Cali. I have done just about everything I can to prepare as far as scouting, practicing over and over again, talking with DFG officials about the area, etc.
Here is my deal: We have an unusually large group of hunters in our group who happen to all get drawn this year which is pretty cool. The problem is that on opening weekend I am certain the majority of us will be hunting the same area because of past seasons success in the area and then also the scouting trips from past weekends. Well I just recieved a call from a good friend saying he is headin up tomorrow as well. This SOB also mentioned that he will be placing his brand-new blind right where these mature bucks are traveling.
I am a bit shocked he didnt set it up a couple weeks ago let alone 2 days before the opener. Would you guys just tell him point blank that it is a very stupid idea to set it up so close to the opening weekend and that these deer will sense it right away?? Or am i just being paranoid?
I have seen to many hunts be blown because of tactics such as these. I will hunt this area on the opener but after that will likely move on to find more secluded portions. This particular area is prime muley habitat and the big boys luv it,so for me to pass on it may be a mistake. What would you do?
