Ive been shooting my bow for a couple of months now. I had it shooting great out to fifty yards, I figured if I cant get that close, I should give up. Anyways, heres the problem, within the last couple of days my arrows have started spiraling down the range. It has no consistency at all. I tuned it, checked everything out, it all seemed fine. Shot it again, same thing. I then took it to an archery professional and he tuned it for me. Again same thing. I havent asked him anything as he is closed today. I was just wondering if you guys had any idea of what it could be. Any help would be appreciated as I have a mule deer hunt coming up on the 1ST. Thanx in adance.

When you say "tuned" what exactly do you mean?

I have a fishtail effect that I can't get rid of. Would that be the same as your spiraling problem?

Yes. The back end of the arrow doesnt stay in line with the front. It wobbles. The arrow is at a different angle in the target from where I shot it from. I also tried paper tuning it and it was off by three inches to the right the first shot, then five to the left the second time. Im lost.

If you paper tuned it and the tear is left and right that means the rest is off, or you're hitting a fletch on release. If the tear is vertical, it's your nock point or the cams aren't perfectly aligned. The archery guy should've done this when he worked on it. Normally, if it's as bad as you're saying I would guess you bumped your rest if it was flying properly before. Also, if you've shot a bunch and your string stretched, it changes the rotation of the wheels on your bow if it's a single cam and won't shoot properly and throws it out of paper tune. Some things to look at and bring up with the archery guy why he didn't check these things in the first place.

The problem sounds all to familiar to me. I would say that your problem is in your bowhand. Getting tears in paper that are that erratic are usually not caused by equipment. I used to be a shop shooter for a local shop and often helped people tune their bows, getting a bullet hole through paper was not a problem for me with their bow, but when they would shoot their bow they would get very incosistent tears.

Try this, stand with your bow hand hanging at your side while facing a target. Raise your bow arm up and point your finger at the target, keep you shoulder low and relaxed, you will feel tension in your hand because you are pointing, now relax your finger and your hand while still "Pointing" at the target, this is what your arm and hand should feel like at full draw. Most people will tell you that they are shooting with a relaxed hand and yet their fingers are straight. When your hand is relaxed, the fingers and thumb are about half closed.

Also if you are not using a sling, buy one. It does'nt matter how little hand shock your bow has, every bow needs one.

I agree with COLO3D. If it's not happening all the time, it's a form problem and not equipement.
Also, if you are shooting a WB rest, that will magnify any form problems IMHO.
Good luck.

I had a similar problem last week. I was shooting perfect after paper tuning. Every out to 50yds hit dead center. Went out a couple days later and everything hit way left. went back to the shop and somehow I screwed up my form and I can't get it back. Every couple shots will hit right on, then the rest keep going left. I don't know what I changed, but its something.

Thanks everyone. It was actually my shooting. I adjusted my shooting form, and now it shoots fine again. I was gripping too tightly. I just lessoned my grip, then I shot a few times, made a couple more adjustments, and now I'm hitting good again. Again, thanx eeryone for everything.
