My dad and I just got back from Nebraska on a deer hunt he does every year and my brother, brother in law and I rotate out years. This year was my turn and we had an absolute blast every day.
My dads hunt lasted about 5 minutes. He walked about 100 yards looking for a spot to sit and wait for the deer to move off private property onto forest to bed and downed his first non typical buck and only his 3rd whitetail. He has triple eyeguards on his right side doubles on his left with anothe kicker up top on his g2 on his right side on a very nice 10 point frame.
I hunted all week for deer letting bigger bucks walk than the one I took. On average letting 25 to 30 bucks go per day. Having a blast stalking them and hunting coyotes as well. I shot a 24 inch 4 point the last night we were going to be there out of self defense. We got permission to hunt a ranch and was making a push through a shelter belt and got to the end of it and the does and a small buck took off out of the end of it. I was about 30 yards back and knelt down incase a good buck came out I would have a steady rest. I was watching them bounce out through the cut corn field and heard a stick break to my right just in time to see a good 4 point muley headed straight at me. I turned and shot and he fell 10 feet from me. i really shot this buck out of self defense. He is my first honest 4 point I have killed bigger 3s and 3x4s.
We also had great luck calling coyotes during deer hunting downtime I took 12 in 4 days of hunting and my dad took 10 and there were a few that got away. Coyote hunting there is like walking into a corral and shaking a grain bucket!
It is a great hunt that seems to get better every year.
I will post up some pics when I get a chance.
