NC Deer Stuck, Free, Killed!

I heard this story on the radio driving to work this morning, they were in the process then of trying to free the deer, later I checked the story online after I got to work to see what happened...

DOH!! That sucks. I drive through about 45 miles of "country" to get to my work. Daily there is a fresh whitetail carcass on the road. The last 4 days they have all been bucks, most of them small but one was about a 130 deer. The biggest I have seen hit this year was about a 180 buck killed in an area with a population of about 45,000 - they called him "The Greenbelt Buck" as he lived in a greenbelt in the middle of the city limits. There was no chance he was going to ever be taken by a hunter and poaching isn't really too big down here, the whitetails are so thick here that if you really want to hunt some big deer there are plenty of opportunities.

We had a 190" buck (190 is HUGE for here) killed by a car up in my part of the state about 3 weeks ago. I live up in the NW part of the state in the mountains. Too bad a lucky hunter didn't get him!

The "chase phase" of the rut is going here now, lots of deer running around everywhere and lots getting hit on the roads. we have a big population of deer here too, there just isn't many big ones.

Yeah a 180 buck is a giant in this immediate area. Down in SO TX and out in west Texas though they are plentiful. Actually a 130 buck around here is big for this gene pool.
