I shot this buck on the extended hunt this morning. I don't have time for details but I was glad my many days of hiking straight up and down FINALLY paid off. He had about a 6-7 inch dropper that broke sometime in the last week but I guess I can't complain. One main beam is 26" the other is broke but is still 23". I gross scored him at 185 with 5 points on each side and 3" eyegaurds. It was a fun day. I will post the story later.

Great for you!

Lots of deer this year, not many bigger bucks yet.... that I have seen.

Everything seems to be right at snowline, either below or above it...

Hunted from Perry to No. Ogden Pass to above Layton... it is a blast and I'm still hopeful.

Congrats on an awesome buck! I like his character. Too bad about the broken off tines but he is still a trophy.

Well here is one more picture. I hunted this buck up through some thick aspens just getting a quick glimpse every now and then until he finally came out in the open. The shot was 35 yards but I was still in the thick stuff so it was a tough shot. I hit him a little bit back so I was very nervous. I follwed blood for twenty yards and found my arrow covered in blood. (complete pass through) I decided to back off for a while even though my buddies were trying to push me into tracking right away. For one hour and forty minutes I stirred around worried he was going to drop off the backside of the hill which was very cliffy and it would be very hard to find him over there. Finally we started to track. I got to where my arrow was in the snow and I looked up and he was lying right there twenty yards ahead. I couldn't believe it. I was pumped. After all the yelling and screaming I relized that all the trips hiking straight UP in the dark for hours at a time were more than worth it. It has been a couple days now and it is really sinking in. I think it will be quite a while before I kill a buck with a bow on public land that is better that 185"..... BUT I sure as "HECK" am gonna try!!!! (If you look close you can see where the dropper was before it broke. It is still about an inch long.)

That's a great buck and a great story! You were good to let him lay down and die though - had you kept pressuring him you may have pushed him over the cliffs! Hey - a good taxi can fix that broken drop tine for you.

Pleasedeer,

"Everything seems to be right at snowline, either below or above it..."

Are there any other places for them to be? sorry man, i am new here. i had to say something.

Actuall it is PleaseDear....

And yes there are many places they could be.

Get up to snowline and you will see what I am saying...

There are alot of deer above the snow line or below the snow line... right along that area of the snowline....

Most of the elk I have seen are still up in the deeper snow.

If ya wanna go up and try and get ya a buck get ahold of me... I mainly hunt solo but if your new around here, I got no problem taking a fella with me.

Robb, darlin'...I think you missed it. He was trying to be a funny guy (at least I think he was, cuz I laughed my butt off).

You know...as in- "is there anyplace other than above or below the snowline", implying that your statement says that the deer are everywhere.

Get it now, buddy boy? LOL

I'm gonna tell the Warden that her hubby is getting dense in his old age........

Well... I invited him to go!!

Lots of deer yesterday... no real big bucks showing them selves... does and little bucks.. man that snow is so crunchy when ya walk!

Going back up sunday if your interested in going... it is about 1700 ft elevation gain so it is 'up' for sure...in under a mile...
