My road is getting cased!

So, I live in an area of NE Nv where deer are all over the place. My house and a large private field is separated by the road. Got some bucks hanging out in the field and around the houses here every evening for the most part. A couple of so-so ones you might go for toward the last of the season. They hang around the neighborhood and crash in the shade of the trees here in my yard sometimes.

Anyway, every late afternoon into the evening I have a guy in a 2003 ford F350 cruising up and down the street glassing these deer. Every night for the last two weeks I'd say. He is definitely "scouting" these things. Thing is, your either in residential or private agricultural.

Stood out by the road and let the guy know I was recording his truck. There has been instances of these "hunters" going after the neighborhood bucks. Lazy pieces of crap won't fair chase them out in the public areas. A local outfitter chased a big buck out the area a few years back so the guy with Govs tag could shoot it. Nice animal. Pretty much used to people and vehicles.

Same story here. Great fun to watch the high-fives when the “hunters” blast the forkie that just got done eating my rosebushes.

Most of the guys who cruise the farm roads here this time of year are “guides”.

Maybe you should call the game warden and report people looking at deer, that'll go well for you.

Paying attention and documenting this behavior isn’t wrong. Who knows what intentions this guy or anyone else has. I glass animals where ever too but some people take it further. If it was me I wouldn’t be expecting the worse out of everyone but I’d pay attention and if I thought something was odd I’d pay extra attention to detail. Nothing wrong with situation awareness. Almost a lost art these days. Hell while I was typing this I almost crashed my truck twice.

I look at deer all the time, and if I was looking at "your" deer, and saw you videoing me id stop and talk to you about them. And I have the same situation where I live in CA. People boast about being hunters then get caught sneaking around my subdivision in their full camo. Nothin wrong with keeping tabs though

In Oregon they will reward you with 4 or 5 preference points for turning in a poacher. If I were you I would just keep a eye on him. Maybe Nevada has a reward system

If you wanna see some nice bucks and a whole bunch a trucks stopping on the road opening day drive out to branch keyhole ranch on crane rd. My buddies uncles place. It’s kinda funny to watch the guys pile up there on the corner. There was about a 180 buck in that field a couple years ago that would just lay there 200 yards off the road

You seem a little paranoid to me, I watch deer and elk all the time, especially big bucks and bulls. Most of our biggest are on ag land around here going to and from work. Even at work on the big private ranches I will set up and take pictures through my spotter of deer and elk. I have no intention of ever trespassing or poaching but I do love seeing big bucks and bulls.

Update is is that apparently this guy has permission from "one" of the landowners but not the other. I talked with the landowner of the one who said "no effing way". The guy with the tag OTOH has permission of the sister of the landowner. I guess they need to sort that out.

I did talk with the guy that has been living on the street the last month. His wife has an archery tag. I did mention that it should be a pretty easy kill as the local deer population are neighborhood pets for the most part. I picked up that he didn't appreciate the snark....lol.

Anyway, I guess they can go after the tame deer and feel good about it.

One of the neighbors had an issue last year with a guy stalking one through his yard a couple of houses down from me and ran him off before he could trip the release. Archery equipment is considered a firearm in the residential area here and the sheriffs office stepped on the guys neck pretty hard I guess.

So, all that said, the guy and his wife have permission from one of the landowners of the field across the street, not the other. they're still here every evening though, keeping an eye on the deer. they may everything cleared up. Not sure and I got nuthin" on that.

Power to them if that makes them feel like big game hunters.

Not saying you did or said anything wrong. But I get a laugh out of landowner or ranch hands getting in your face and saying you can’t be watching their wildlife. I politely tell them once that I have a right to be on public land and watch wildlife. After that I get very belligerent. Few have threatened to call others or the sheriff, and I tell them to call an ambulance first because they will need their help first if they get in my face again.
Sorry for venting, but there is no reason for landowners or ranch hands to be Aholes!!!

Not everyone is fortunate enough to have bucks all over the place so when you see them off the road, yah you tend to get a little excited and want to watch or take a look at them...I get your point that its the same guy but now that you know he has permission from a landowner so be it. Also if his wife wants to kill a backyard pet so be it, good for her for at least being in the game...not everyone needs to feel like the great white hunter. some just want to put a lil venison on the table...

I sure did… I missed the action personally. Myself & a buddy dropped off into some BLM to move in on a gobbling bird. I then hear arguing coming from the road. When we got back, my other 2 buddies that stayed in the car confronted the guy when they saw what he was doing. He said it was for documentation “Just in case something happens”. ???

I also live in North East Nevada and i love looking at and taking pictures and video of neighborhood deer. Unfortunatly, people hunting neighborhood deer is becoming a thing. Outfitters keeping tabs on yard bucks and following them around the neighborhood for days waiting for August 1st in order to get the govenor tag holder on a neighborhood buck is NOT hunting. Our first season is archery which starts August 10th. Govenor tag holder is allowed to hunt August 1st with a rifle. Somehow neighborhood bucks end up on facebook etc on August 2nd with govenor tag holders. But hunting in these non city residential areas is not illegal. Hunting on private land is illegal but if the deer gets pushed a little ways from the housing sections then you are not doing anything illegal except harrasing wildlife. Last year i had a very nice buck living on my street. I met a guy at the store who was looking foor him in July. He was sent up here to Spring Creek by an outfitter to come check him out. I told him the buck got hit and killed by a car. I'd like to see Nevada Fish and Game make neighborhood deer hunting and harrassment a bigger priority but i know they are understaffed and cannot patrol the mountains and the neighborhood. I myself have been questioned by people when i stop to take pictures and video of deer in neighborhoods. But im good with that. I think JimNV may have questioned me last year. But im good with that. Im on your side JimNV. Im not against people looking at deer and taking pictures but i am against people hunting neighborhood bucks. Especially Outfitters making a paycheck off of bucks eating out of a bird feeder or drinking out of a kiddy pool. We currently have an investigation going on right now about about a neighborhood buck being killed this year on August 1st by an Outfitter. In my eyes, if hunting neighborhood bucks is how you find big bucks for clients then you are no hunter. You are just a killer and collector and somebody selling our sport to the highest bidder. Sorry for the rant guys, but this is a real problem in the Elko area. And i stand with JimNV. Fatrooster

I was just talking with a the manager of a large cattle operation in Nevada last week, told me most of the problems they have are with the locals. I don't know why he would say that to a resident of California. Guy was super cool
