Well i definitely didnt imagine this to be my first bowkill. Got it in the desert in Arizona. Drew a pig tag in 24A and was hunting deer also. This guy came running up to me and turned at 20 yards trotting. I hit him while trotting. I knew it was a good shot, he turned around and ran back where he came from about 15 yards and fell. The arrow hit about an inch behind the shoulder and passed through. Couldnt pull this off if i tried another million times! Im pretty pumped though and ill never forget it.

Here is the kill arrow. The knock came off at some point.

I dont know if they are endangered but they are not rare. I see those little buggers all over the place, usually in my headlights just before dawn.

Now there's a trophy you don't arrow everyday. Congratulations!

SW:

It's a desert gray fox......sometimes confused with a kit fox (protected).....but the desert's are plentiful and fair game throughout the southwest.

I have never seen a fox like that. I believe you made a one in a million shot on that if it was moving for sure. The kill zone has got to be only 2 inches or less. Are you going to get it mounted or did the broadhead tear it up two much.

Archery is a year round commitment!!

Thanks for the comments. Since i shot it at a slight downward angle the broadhead exited near the underside of the fox so it didnt do a ton of visible damage. Although on the inside it did devastating damage im sure. I really want to get a full mount of this guy but im not sure if i can afford the taxi bill : x
This is also my second gray fox but the first i killed with a rifle.

Cool...I killed a grey fox with my bow while javeline hunting. I was calling a wash for pigs when I saw the fox from quite a distance running in to the call. I didn't want to waste an expensive broadhead (I was just out of school and poor), so I used my field point. It went through both shoulders and pinned him to the ground. I'll see if I can find a pic

That is a GREY FOX, common in arizona, and really through out the US. I call and shoot dozens a year, and they really dont look like the kit fox, if you put the 2 together, and NO the kit fox is NOT protected in arizona, you can shoot them as well, ( i get several of them a year too)

Solid bow kill! Congrats! What are those pelts runnin for this year?
