my first archery kill

i shot this buck after three days of solo hunting. hes not huge by any means but he was my first archery buck and now im hooked!

heres a picture of what i found on his neck. looks like a lion tried to get him. obviously recent as is evident by the open wound or he got him pretty good and its only starting to heal. pretty crazy huh? have any of you ever seen this on a deer you killed? interestingly, my dad got an antelope last september that had similar scars.
