My arrow setup?

I am going on my first archery elk hunt this year and I am worried about my arrow setup. I shoot Gold Tip 5575 XT Hunters that are 26 inches long, 100 gr. spitfires with a 62# draw. Is this to light. From my figures this puts my arrow right around 350 grains. I am thinking of trying a fixed blade for the Elk and I have read the other posts about that. I am more worried about the weight. I am not new to hunting but I am new to bowhunting so any advice is appreciated.

You need to shoot your arrow through a cronograph to find the speed of that setup. 270fps with a 350 grain arrow with broadhead equates to 56 lbs of kinetic energy. 50 lbs. is usually considered minimum for Elk. Use a good fixed blade broadhead!

Good luck

I put my arrow on a scale last night and found that it weighs 370 grains. Now I need to find a chrono to shoot through. I am looking at the montecs, are they easy to resharpen?

Montechs are good .. I used your same set up to kill a bull elk at 50 yrds...complete pass through I was shooting 275fps

Definitely shoot a fixed blade head. i wouldn't shoot a mechanical at an elk, but if I had to I'd want the most energy I could muster. Your setup is probably fine as long as you put it in the right spot with a good, sharp broadhead.

Your set up is plenty adequate to kill an elk assuming you put it in the boiler room.
I agree with you using a fixed head. Montec's are great b-heads and yes, they can be sharpened.
Good luck on your hunt!

i would go with a muzzy 100gr, that tip on that broadhead is a bone buster and is well capable of taking down elk.
