Muzzy 100 vs. Stingers?

I shot a cheap machanical broadhead last year, and my buddy recommended me trying Muzzy 100 gr. 3 blade this year. He said thats what he used and had real success as far as accuracy and reliability. So I did some research and it seems a lot of you love them....so that's what I bought. Well, I went out last week and shot them. They don't fly like my field tips! At ALL! They're consistently to the left. My bow IS paper tuned and I don't think that my tips are out of balance...(although I haven't spun them like I should have.) My same buddy just went and bought Magnus Stingers this year and he says they shoot even better than his Muzzy's did. What can I do to fix the problem? I don't want to go and buy more broadheads. I shoot 25" 5575 Goldtips with a Hoyt Havoctec.

What kind of a rest are you using? Fletching? The Spine should be plenty stiff at only 25".....Your buddy is right, the Stingers fly extremely well! But so should the Muzzy's........

I just put muzzy 100's on my wifes arrows to test... they shot very well. I opt'd for the 4blade versions because each blade doesnt stick out as far as a 3blade version does. They seemed pretty darn good. Shes doing archery for the first time due to not drawing her usually hunting tag.

I'm using the NAP quicktune 4000 drop-away rest. I would think fletching clearance would be the problem with a shoot-through...but I don't have that. Suggestions?

hey bud,i think youre whole problem might be you are shooting too short of arrow....i have read several articles on this subject and have also experienced the same problem.when youre arrows are to short they will fly great with field tips but put on a broad head and they usually wont fly well .i think this has to do alot with youre stability of the arrow, too much weight on the tip.it is a general rule of thumb that you should never go shorter than 26 inch when shooting fixed blade broadheads.i shoot 90 grain 4 blade muzzy and always group with my field tips .i shoot them on a 27 and 28inch carbon.but last year i shot them on 25 and half arrows and they flew verry badly.way left and low.so just a thought.i bet if u tryed a longer arrow u will be amazed at the difference...good luck

So are you saying to try a 75 gr. muzzy? My friend has an old package of'em he said I could try. That won't be to light will it??? That's my concern. My total arrow weight will be around 331 grains with them......too light for mule deer??? I'm right at 5.09 grains per lb. of draw weight. (65 lbs draw is what I shoot)

Correction....I WOULD BE at 5.09 gr per lb. of draw weight with the 75 grain muzzy's. I'm currently at 5.47 gr. per lb. A lot of guys say that you need around a 400 gr. arrow for hunting. I'm hunting Muleys is all???

223,
I have a friend that just stopped shooting his muzzy 100's he couldn't get them to tune at all. I have heard alot of people say that the muzzy are good if your not shooting that fast of a bow. My friends muzzy's shot well until he uped the poundage on his bow. and he is only shooting around 255 - 260 fps. he decided to switch to the NAP nitrons and on the first time he shot them he said they shot better than his field tips. I would go with the smallest length broadhead you can get I shoot the titanium 100 and they shoot good to and I am shooting at around 280 fps.

good luck

223,
my hunting partner switched from the Montec's to the 75 Grain muzzy because he was getting much better flight than both the 100 grain version of the Muzz and the Montec. I am shooting the Stinger's this year and can't say that I'm 100% satisfied with them--who knows, I might be throwing on a 75 Grain muzz too. good luck!

Boys:
I shot the 75 grain Muzzy's.....they fly great! Right in there with the field tips. That's what I'm taking on the mountain. I've gotten a few dirty looks from people around when they find out the small weight of my broadhead, since I come from a family of "Heavy-Arrowers". (23XX...whatever...aluminum logs flying through the air)Oh well....it'll fly true and hit it's mark now. That should do the trick! Anyone else like their 75 gr. Muzzy over others? Experiences? I'd like to know.
