Mushroom ID needed

Any of you experts know what this is? They grow under my zucchini plants in Northwest Kali. We've only had about 14 hours of sun since April. I can't wait until I can head east for the hunt, and burn off some of this moss growing on my body.:)

I don't know what it is eel, but if you cook one I'd let the wife eat a little then watch her for a few hours.....

Eel, not sure what you got there. i know some, not that one. Kinda looks like a start to a puffball but i don't think it is. My understanding is that all puffballs in Kali are edible...Please, don't trust that!! I have fried up a few, kinda tasteless. You put a little garlic on them and they taste like garlic. Give me some shaggy maynes or Morels any day, twice on Sunday!!

Amen.....dry them (all brands) shrooms out!even them ones that dont start out good for you, get better when you take the moisture out of them! More potent! oh those were the days.......

Well Eel.. There are three possiblities.. As it was already mentioned you could cook some up and feed some to one of your neighbors or wife and observe them for a while.. if they get sick well that's your answer on that one.. if they don't get sick you know you have a cheap source for mushrooms and you can cross mushrooms off the grocery list.. Third.. IF they sit and stare at the carpet and comment on how it's moving and growing well than my friend you just added another source of tax free income to your retirement..
 
My second ex-mother in law had one that looked like that, growing under her left eye.....it had a purpleish tint to it though.
 
If it has a pink underside...its edible....Eweull Gibbons told me that one time(yeh right)....remember him? EVER ATE A GRAPE NUT? SOME PARTS ARE EDIBLE....died at the ripe old age of 58(I think)

Buy your mushrooms at Safeway to be safe.
But I do have an old Alabama method of telling schrooms from toad stools. Boil them with a silver spoon and if the spoon remains bright silver they are mushrooms but if the spoon tarnishes run like hell.

Fred,

The mushroom looks to be /Leucoagaricus naucina/, a member of the family
Lepiotaceae. It should have white spores and a partial veil, but no
universal veil (that leaves a cup at the base & spots or patches on the
top of the cap). The photos are consistent with that. That species is
non-poisonous, despite the name, but inedible.
