MT the best state to poach in!

It's not uncommon to pile on a bunch of charges in order to make a plea agreement so the case won't go to trial. The first incident sounds like maybe the guy was treated the way he was because of his profession and IMO he got off easy. The second incident sounds like the guy got a pretty good sentence of over $7,000 and loss of hunting priviledges for two years when it sounds like he didn't take any game illegally, although he was trying to help people do so.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-29-11 AT 07:37PM (MST)[p]He had been illegally outfitting on property he had no permission on for years...how much money do you think he made over the years?$7000 wouldnt scratch the surface. These two are just from the last week, they regularly take several years to put together a case allowing these scum bags to carry on in the meanwhile and then they end up with relatively small fines and NO jail time. The punishment doest come close to fitting the crime IMO,we need jail time in these cases to keep people from doing it.
NO jail time in these two big cases...

The list goes on forever, with the amount of money these illegal operations can bring in its no wonder MT has several cases prosecuted every year.Put away some cash to pay some fines IF you get caught and you have nothing to worry about!

Shedz---My post was in regards to what the article stated and I see nowhere that it says it had been going on for years like you are saying. If that is the case and you are correct, then they should have put the SOB in jail for a couple years and then we would know for damn sure that he wouldn't hunt those two years! I agree with you 150% that these scofflaws that are caught doing egregious acts need to have the book thrown at them, including a decent amount of jail time! Unfortunately, these friggin judges in most instances just don't treat the cases like the major crimes that we feel they are and that is THEFT of OUR valuable resources!

Poaching penalties are never enough,IMO-in any state.Until penalties are more severe, poaching will continue in perpetuity. These guys made way more money than they had to pay out after getting caught.Make it a felony with mandatory jail time.Freakin' scumbags.I HATE poachers.

I wish they would keep track of all the costs for their investigation/prosecution and tack that on to their fines at least.

Shedz---That's exactly what we did on cases I was involved. All those costs, including mileage and gas, were given to the Court through the Prosecutor and they were generally tacked on as part of the costs and given back to our Dept., besides the actually fine that was assessed in each case.

Well, it looks like I am planning my next Aoudad poaching trip to Montana!

HOOK 'EM!

Idaho might compete with Montana for that title. I know several guys that have been caught redhanded and let off on silly technicalities. Once during a cow elk hunt I watched a guy from Nevada flock shoot a herd killing multiple spikes. I gave his license plate "got dsl" to IDFG and they said there was nothing they could do.

I have reported several offenses with ZERO follow up,Im done doing their job for them I wont waste my time with them again.

Outfitting without a license is not a crime worth spending one dime on.
Poaching is!!! So to call some one a scumbag because he refuses to get licensed in your joke of a licensing system is a stupid as trying to keep non residents out of your state.

You are talking out of you @ss Garth. To get an outfitter license is not difficult and to be a guide all one has to do is basically pass the CPR test.

Also you may wish to review how easy it is now for NR hunters to hunt in Montana. 100% draw last year, nobody is stopping anyone
