LAST EDITED ON Apr-26-12 AT 00:36AM (MST)[p]Hey ya'll i talked to some locals around my school and got some good info on where to go to "see" some moose:) well first time i went out i picked up my very first moose shed ever and i think its really nice but not sure. never found one before haha. but i've seen a decent amount. so i scored it and it scores 44" on its own which puts it right at 130" with a 40" spread which i think is a bit low for this bull. that puts him only 10" below boone. btw its a shiras moose shed.
22" palm length, 9" palm width, 7 points, 6" base

went back a couple times with no luck on the pair or any new sheds so i got on google earth to spot some other spots that looked good. never thought it would work but figured it was worth a try. so i went into the area that looked good and it looked great. saw 4 moose and found these all within 100 yards of eachother. the big one and the one that doesnt have the wider paddle were within 10 yards. shiras moose again.

i think the one is a monster but still not positive. i am just a little confused on one part of his score which makes it 5" different per side. so the lower score that i know is totally legal is 155 with a 40" spread which i put him around 50". and i know 155" makes the all time records which is where a 200" typical deer goes. so any insight to how big these sheds really are. the other two score 140" with 40" spreads, right at boone.

sorry no atl's of fresh one. i got them but not downloaded yet. i will try to post them soon. its a pretty cool atl. only one tine sticking out of a pretty good pile of snow.
so there are my first four moose sheds found within the past week. any help on realizing how big or small these sheds really are would be helpful since i can only reference them to eachother and they are all close in size except one. Thanks. So overall thank you google earth and locals. Also i think i better thank the shed gods for those three in one day.

Any moose shed is a great find but your big shed is a for sure trophy. Yes, I think you run your line between the 1st and 2nd browe, if that gives you a paralell line with the palm edge.

thanks you guys. i'm really happy and grateful i was lucky enough to find them. the question i had on score of the big one is the width of the palm. does it have to be up high or can it be between the second and third point of this bull. it is still perpendicular to the palm edge but the top width is 10" and the lower one would make him 15". plus i don't know about his width. i put him at angle most moose go out at according to two mounts i have around my house and he goes over 55" wide if the other side matches. so if all matches up and i can count the wider palm width then he would go 180" overall which is huge.

I'm prretty sure the width has to come from the largest part of the palm. So either of the places marked would work.

its been ok but rough at the same time. mainly just me and my dad shed hunt and we are at about 120 deer sheds but not much at all fresh. nothing big at all fresh except one nice three. i am doing good on year old horns for deer. got lots of 150"ers from last year but very few sets overall. only one decent set for deer. but i have picked up two this year that are really big for my standards(180) and one is as big as i have ever got except its basically trash. just all intact still. fresh elk has been hard too. got 4 good sets over 300 though but nothing much better. maybe one year old single that will go 340". not as good as my normal year. should have 60 elk by now with a few fresh 350" sets. but hey its by far my best on moose ever. and ive only been a few times. i'm going back this weekend to search for the pair to all of the ones i just got since i barely looked. just wanna match that big sucker up bad. he has a good chance of actually making the top ten shiras sheds that are in the NASHC record books. so its a pretty big one. i've just rough scored him though and need to take my time and put a good tape to him when i get home.

LAST EDITED ON May-01-12 AT 12:06PM (MST)[p]just thought i would update you guys. i have found three more moose sheds in the last two days so i thought i would post more pictures and story. went out with my girl sunday and got two. i let her find the big one after i spotted it.

went out the next day(monday) by myself to look for the pair to the monster i found last week.
not twenty minutes out of the car i spotted this. i thought it was gonna be pretty small from first look.
atl

turns out i was only seeing brow palm and not the whole antler. its a big one.
6653dscn0589.jpg

i knew right away it was the pair. i couldn't believe it. only 150 yards away from first side and i walked within 30 yards of it twice on different days. its got three points chewed and is missing about 10 inches but in good shape otherwise.

here is the set together.

good picture of how big their brow palms are for shiras moose.

the second side only

year old set that should be extremely close to making it in nasch's top ten shiras sets. btw this is my first ever set of moose antlers. they are also my 3rd and 7th moose antlers.

ya i couldn't believe it either. my dad is kinda pissed haha just cause he aint here with me and as he says, i am a "lucky little ba$tard" its a pretty good little hole. done for the season though. got to go home so it will be over 6 hours away for the summer. little to far to drive. i hit it one more time yesterday and didn't find anything except three more spots that look promising.
