Monster WA elk SHEDS

A guy came and picked up some birds from me last night. He is from down by Walla Walla. His friend owns a couple thousand acres down on the foothills of the Blues. He has a bunch of elk wintering on his property. One was a GIGANTIC bull I guess and he had been watching him. One day he had shed, and within 24 hours a kid in town had his antlers. They are calling it a 440 bull. I highly doubt that, but I guess it's a big one. 8x10. The kid has already been offered 8 grand for the antlers. The guy is pissed because the kid obviously trespassed I guess, but he can't solidly prove it. He has two more monster bulls on his place as well. A huge 7x7 and another 8x11 I guess. The 7x7 is supposed to be pushing 400. I heard about that bull last year as he was pretty much a local celebrity. There were oodles of guys camped on him, waiting for him to drop. Anyhow, if anyone from that area knew of these antlers it would be cool to see them. Not everyday one gets to see bone like that. I'll re-post this in the elk forum as well.

Well guys, pretty much the only thing accurate about your story is that indeed the bull is 440 and it is from Washington. Period. It did come off of public property, no trespassing was involved. NO ONE else was watching it. I know because I shed hunt every day in the same area. No other trucks in the area means no one is there, right?? Plus the bull never came out of the brush, it could not be watched. The kid in question only saw it twice in 20 days of going EVERY morning and EVERY evening. He did not luck into it in anyway. Hard work is the only thing that got him those antlers.

Of course this bull is a fluke. We do not live in Arizona. Historically we don't even produce Boone and Crocket bulls except once or twice a decade. There is tremendous shed hunting pressure in our areas. People from all over descend on us every year. We send them home empty-handed just as fast as they arrive through hard work and local knowledge. People just don't understand the dedication we shed hunters have.

Drawing a tag in this area is close to one in two hundred. One absolutely cannot expect to draw this tag. It happens, but don't count on it in your lifetime.......

1 in 200 thats all come to utah elk drawing odds are much worse that that try 1 in 1000 or more

Thank you slayer for your update. I was just passing on the gossip I had heard. I'm glad to hear that. I can't imagine a bull that large in our fair state even though I've seen some hawgs. I hope pictures of him show up sometime. SOUNDS UNREAL!

tell the kid that scored the shed to post some pics.
and tell him congrats on the results from his hard work.

Those things are awsome. I hope that fella doesn't sell them because I don't believe you will see a set like that again for a long time, I hope I am wrong. It would be nice to clear things up however, I would like to know if they came from Washington or Oregon? It sounds to me like they were pretty close to the border. Thank you for posting those...it made my day. P.S. how much do they weigh and what are the circumference measurements?

I don't know the measurements.......they weighed, on a digital bathroom scale, around 28 lbs I believe. They score 402 with no spread is all I can say for sure.

Thanks for the info. Twenty eight pounds, they look heavier than that, unless you are saying per antler then I would have to put my eyes back in my head. 402 with no spread credit that means that they could even go to the 450 mark depending on spread credit....wow. I hope that the guy that found them will someday put them on display for us to see. I am not saying mount or sell them just have them at a show. People would pay money so see that kind of bone. Thanks for sharing and clearing up the smoke.
