Salton Sea...back in the 60s and into the 70s, some guys would purposely break the sound barrier while below sea level.

In today's Navy, they would be out of a job and maybe in jail.

Back then I was deer hunting and camped next to the lookout tower at Horse Ridge, in CA, the highest peak around. It was afternoon and I was taking a nap on my cot. Out of nowhere came a BIG boom. I thought it was going to break my ear drums. Then I see these two military jets as they flew away just above the tree tops. WTF? I later talked to the lady in the lookout tower and she told me those sob's do that all the time. She was pissed, but I bet those pilots got a good laugh.
