Mechanical Broad heads?

I would like to know what ya'll think about mechanical broad heads, how do they fly, and how do they puncture? Do they enter strait on Quartering shots, seems like they would veer off.

Regardless the replies I tested them for 2 years on 8 pigs, 1 fox, 5 deer, 2 turkey. I won't waste my time with them anymore. When they work, they work super. When they fail, they fail miserably.

It takes not much work to use fixed blade and they perform on a much higher level.

PS the bull we saw wasn't anywhere close to Hay Canyon. Sorry.

I shot Gold Tips for a few years and I loved them becasue they flew just as good as my target tips. I killed several animals and never had a failure.

I now use Muzzy fixed broadheads and they fly great too.

Can someone tell me what fails on a mechanical broadhead. I'd probably still be using them but they're a real pain to put together.

I shoot Thunder heads and prefer fixed blades hands down. I have seen the blades on several expandables and they bend and disfigure easily. I have seen them broken off on the entry hide and I have seen expandables bounce off animals and cartwheel off the animal on quartering shots. I hunt to hard for my opportunities to shoot a head I don't trust. Good luck to you all.

i have shot mule deer and elk with them and no failures they worked just like they should.

I've witnessed all the above failures on mechanicals PLUS failure to open on 2 deer. Believe me trailing a deer thats esentially lung shot with a judo tip sucks. The last one that did that took me from 9am till 8pm without a break to find. Just grid searching because there is little if any blood.....

The one thing thats almost 100% is that a fixed blade(especially non replaceable cut on contact heads) head will not fail you.

If you shoot mechanicals - best of luck. I owe more to the animal than to risk that IMHO.

I've been shootin some expandable broad heads the last to days, and they fly great, so far i really like them, we will see how they do on my deer hunt.
