Any good mule deer hunting outside of McCall/New Meadows/Stanley? Is it easy to get a non-res tag? Any good areas to focus on? In the last few years, I've hunted Wyo, Utah, Alaska, Oregon and California and I want to give Idaho a try in a year or two. I'm starting to research it now.

Thanks for any and all info.

There is some good mule deer hunting in that area but you are going to have to put in some work if you want a big buck.
Last year you could buy an over the counter tag. This year the F&G will likely make some big changes to the regs and have already said that they are "considering" turning a number of units in southern Idaho into controlled hunts. Some of the units "proposed" to be changed to controlled hunts in the area your asking about include units 22, 23 and 32A. The fish and game has also said "However, no units are off the table,"
I wouldn't make any big plans until the F&G put out the 2004 regs in about a month.
There is a state wide non-resident quota that probably won't be met any sooner than late August if at all.
