MATTHEWS OUTBACK--FORGIVING OR NOT--??

I purchased a outback about 3 months ago and what I have found out is that it is not as forgiving as my SQ2. just food for thought and to see what everyone elses thoughts were.

I can't speak for the SQ2, but I just got my OUTBACK and it's like wiping my a$$ with silk, I love it. It's a wet dream without all the messy clean-up. It's the best bow I've ever shot by far.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-08-04 AT 10:36AM (MST)[p]I buy the newest Mathews every year just because I do some work for a dealer and can get super deals on them. I sold my SQ2 last year after deer season and got an Outback this season. I agree that I did like my old SQ2 better. To me it seemed quieter and more forgiving. My Outback will go on Ebay Jan. 1st and I'll wait until the new Switchback comes out next year and see how it shoots......It's supposedly 318 IBO, smoother draw yet, and also will have a new "Barracuda" string. Hopefully the string will be pre-stretched. We'll see!

I have not shot the SQ2, but i have shot the LX, and the Outback kicked its butt, and i love my out back. It is smooth and quiet as far as i can tell.

I went from a 41" Mathews Conquest to the 31" Outback and my shooting has improved. I harvested a 175" Pope and Young Muley with it this fall. The only gripe I have is the valley at 65% let off. This thing is ready to go at the 1st sign of relaxing. That aside the hand shock and noise level does not compare with the Conquest. I am sold on the Outback and I am quite confident it will help me harvest many more critters in the future.

Well I do like this bow very much, it took me awhile to get it properly set up and I am sure I can still tweak it in many ways, but with the deer hunt coming up it will have to wait awhile. I found out that my form was the major problem. Maybe I was used to shooting my SQ2 and I needed a different anchor point with outback. Anway my form it much much better and I am shooting much much better. 5 inch diameter circle at 50 yards. Not bad for myself. I would love to shoot year round but job doesn't alow it during the summer. thanks

Coonhound,
Give this a try, take the rubber bumper off the draw stop but keep the pin in the 65% let off hole. You won't believe how much this helps improve the valley and the bow won't try to get away from you anymore.

RE: ATTN: COONHOUND

Quickdrawkinker,

You are thinking up the same lines as me. I 1st took the rubber off the draw stop but I did not like the noise so I covered the stop with small rubber o-rings. The 0-rings that come with thunderhead broadheads work great. That extra 1/8" of draw does make all the difference. This would also be the same for the LX and Ovation bows.

RE: ATTN: COONHOUND

Yeah, you're right. My bow is actually the Ovation, but my friend shoots the Outback and he had the same results. What I did was take out the pin and put some shrink tube on it, that way it makes it quiet and provides a much better valley. Good luck!
