Having just started "seriously" shed hunting, I am curious to know how many matched sets you find? I have found several nice antlers but cannot find any matches.

Any recommendations? Do you usually find the match???

Thanks

You'd be a very lucky lad to find even a few matched sets. Truth is, it doesn't happen very often. Sometimes it'll take a whole year or two to find the matching side to a fresh antler on a current year....that's if you find the match at all. I'm curious as to which side folks tend to find? 13 out of the 20 fresh brown elk sheds I found this year were right sides.

I just found a match to a shed my buddy found a month ago. It is the 7th set we found this year. Still looking for the matches to 2 other nice sheds. All sets have been within 200 yards of each other. Last year I found matches that were over 1500 yards apart and it took 9 months to find it. One is brown and one is white.

I have found only 2 sets this year both of nice bucks in Utah The first buck I spotted packing one side on January 28th I had seen him 2 hours prior and he had both sides. I watched him for six hours that day and he did not drop. I returned to the area the next morning and there were no deer on the slope. I spent the next few hours looking for the other side with no luck. It looked like the coyotes had been in the area and chased the deer out. Friday morning I spent a few more hours looking with no luck once again. Friday afternoon I had about a hour of light left so I headed for a nother canyon to check out another buck I had been watching. This is about three miles from were I found the single shed. Just as I was leaving I saw a buck with One horn pop up on the skyline. I just got my scope on him and could tell it was the same buck I had been lookin for who had dropped his horn 2 days prior. No lie he reaches up with his back foot and nocks the other horn off and jumps three feet in the air when it hits the ground. So I hiked up in the dark and claimed the other horn.If I had not seen him I would have never looked in that area. I have watched four bucks drop horns in last few years but this was my faverite by far. He is a older buck He looks like a old tired horse with a swayed back and ratty coat. I have seen him the last four years in a row but only found his sheds this one time. Its sound crazy but my wife says I will probly not see him again and this was a gift .???
